• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ModelConverterX 170 and 180 -Unable to Export Model

Hi again Arno,

thanks again for continued help!
I used your link to MCX history and downloaded MCX 1.50 and 1.60. It seems like the check for the C++ files is possibly in 1.60 or, at least, 1.50 accepts my C++ files where 1.60 does not!
Trying to export X to Mdl file in either MCX 1.50 gives me an error saying "unable to find MakeMDL - please set path in options" - I thought this file was for FS9 models - I can't find it in the FSX SDK. I have the correct "XtoMdl" path set!

Are you sure that you selected FSX MDL as export format then and not the FS2004 MDL format?

I have just modified the code that checks if the C++ 2005 redistributable is installed. It will now check both for the RTM version that you installed from the FSX disks or the SP1 version that it already checked for before. So hopefully with the next development release you can use the latest version without issues.

Hi again Arno,

I don't know how much work it would be for you to modify, say, MCX 1.50 or 1.70 to accept my older C++ files, but I'd certainly like to get one of those versions to work on my system as I'm having troubles with MCX 1.30! The textures on my Sketchup models are not coming out correctly on a model in FSX produced with MCX 1.30. I never had such a problem making FSX models from Sketchup "dae" exports before!

Below is another example, showing Sketchup 3D drawing views and views of model as appearing in FSX.

Views of model as appearing in FSX - the actual textures also seem to be different each time I load the flight! I have ensured that my textures are copied into the Texture folder for my addon 'Airport, and also entered in FSX main Texture folder.

No, I am not modifying the previous stable releases anymore, that would make it a mess. But like I said I made a change in the current development release that should hopefully fix it, but I did not push this new development release online yet. I have just started the release process, so it should be available within 15 minutes from now.

It’s best not to have more than one folder containing textures for an object, normally.

MCX Version 1.50 is the oldest version I have that doesn't like my C++ files. This is the only version I can get to actually export a Model file. This version, however, seems to be having issues with producing the right Textures on my models in FSX!
I have just created another Terminal building 3D drawing, in Sketchup, of a building on an Aerodrome in Denmark (EKTS Thisted), and MCX 1.30 produced a 'mdl' file from the exported 'dae file'. I have loaded that model into ADEX and set it into the airport scenery, but thr textures displayed on the model are incorrect and also appear differently each time I reload the flight!? Views are shown below;-

Some textures seem to be correct (basic colours, mainly), but in this case the 'brickwork' texture and many of the 'glass'areas' have some other texture rendered, and these are not even the same 'odd' textures every time I load!

I have, over the past few years, created many models for over 100 Airfields I have created or updated with Sketchup, MCX , Library Creator and ADEX without ever having encountered this problem, though I have not used MCX 1.30 before now!

I look forward to trying the new Development release. Thanks for all your patient help!

The new development release is online since last evening. Did you try if that one detects your version of the C++ runtime correctly? I could not test it here, since I have the newer version installed on my machine.

I downloaded one that was labelled 'latest release' (it shows creation date 8th Jan 2006 in its properties), but unfortunately it still rejects my C++ files.

Sorry to hear that. I guess your version uses different registry keys than those I found online for the RTM version in that case. I may running out of ideas here....

Yes, that's the only thing that came to my mind earlier today. An option to disable the checks at own risk.
