• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 MSFS Brisbane City - Work in Progress Thread

So today I had an idea of a new technique to make sure all buildings are aligned to with +/-1m RMSE with real life.

I have decided to keep the better version of Riperian Plaza, but I definitely need to completely re-work the garage ramp as it's way oversized, goes up to the 2nd floor and in general breaks realism, this I will have to learn how to fix in Blender.

Work Completed Today:
  • Moved Riperian Plaza to within +/-1m RMSE
  • Moved Story Bridge to within +/-1m RMSE
  • Moved AMP Place to within +/-1m RMSE
  • Moved Comalco Place (Blue Tower) to within +/-1m RMSE
  • Moved Riverside Centre to within +/-1m RMSE
  • Moved One One One Eagle Street to within +/-1m RMSE
  • Moved Central Plaza 2 to within +/-1m RMSE
  • Moved Central Plaza 3 to within +/-1m RMSE
  • Moved ANL Building to within +/-1m RMSE
  • Moved 82 Eagle Street to within +/-1m RMSE
  • Moved 100 Eagle Street to within +/-1m RMSE
  • Moved 351-371 Queen Street to within +/-1m RMSE
  • Moved Royal/Sun Alliance Building to within +/-1m RMSE
  • EDIT: Finalized 3D mesh model for Riperian Plaza ready for lighting and PBR texturing
Going to have to go back to my side gig tomorrow, but aiming to get Riperian glassed (it's a super complicated hero building so it's worth taking time with it, I know how to fix the garage spiral, but I have to patch the lower facade which may take some more effort)

That spiral though has to be fixed!

Story Bridge properly aligned.

View from the Story Bridge, as time goes on what you see in sim should replicate what you see in real life in terms of buildings occluding one another etc.

With buildings more accurately placed, reflections will also become more lifelike.

EDIT: And Fixed!!!!! Super stoked, I learned something new in Blender today and I finally remodeled the way inaccurate garage ramp... There may be hope for me as a 3D modeler in Blender yet!

Only a few more models to add PBR to on this reach of the Brisbane River then I can head over to the Southbank side of the river :D

Walkthrough of latest work and updates.

Beyond that I think I have basically finished Riparian Plaza, (thank goodness!!!), well I deo need to move a few windows that aren't properly aligned but this is getting very close, this is by far the most complicated building in Brisbane (until Queen's Wharf goes in). I just need to add night light effects to it but that will come once the window glassing phase is over.

Ok so Riparian is not yet code complete. I have had to adjust the awnings and separate them out and re-align some that were off. Then in an attempt to rejoin them I've learned that the separated parts need to have the exact same material name before re-joining... So I'll get onto that tomorrow... Oh I've also streamlined polygons and have learned a few new things in blender.

In the meantime here's a machinima video I made last night of the Riparian Plaza building study, this one is posted to Vimeo as I don't yet have the opener for the new web channel fully ready to go, I need to swap out shots...

[EDIT: Updated link to YouTube]

Have since gone through about 50 iterations of Riparian Plaza since this, finalizing the window awnings, streamlining polygons, removing low grade details that don't add to the model. There's a few things I've learned that I can apply to polish up AMP Place. Now that Riparian is out of the way I should be able to move a lot fasted on the rest of the city.

Looks amazing Hollywood! I can't wait for this scenery (of my home town) to be available. Let me know if you need any beta testing.

Grew up on the Goldie myself, so it's kinda home. Looks absolutely fantastic.

We just need an updated Archerfield to match it.

Can't wait for this, even though Brisbane was updated in the latest World Update. This will make the city look amazing

Awesome work

Sam
