I am trying to attach a land-able platform to a 3D mesh on 3ds max but the result in the sim is terrible performance. It seems that a platform with many polygons is the cause. Is there anywhere around this issue?
Just like any other mesh the platform will be triangulated. The more platform triangles you have, the harder on the performance. For each triangle the sim has to calculate if you are on it. So best to keep the platform shape simple.
