• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello All,

I just got ADE and am trying to get this thing setup to work right, but I don't seem to be pointing this program in the right direction as it won't open any of the default airports.
My question is this: What folders do I point this thing to so that it opens the airports?
I realize that there is no documentation with this prog because it's a "work in progress", but this is some basic info that should be included regardless of build status, IMHO.

I have FSX Deluxe default install, (no SP1 as it caused me more problems than it solved), Windows XP Pro (fully updated) current .NET framework installed.

There are two folders that you need to tell ADE about. Set them by opening the Options Window. Get that from the Settings Menu. The second tab is called Folders and you set them there.

The first is the folder that the BglComp SDK is located in. this will be ..\sdk\Environment Kit\BGL Compiler SDK\

The second is the main folder for your FSX installation for example mine is

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\

It is the second one the ADE uses to access stock airports. Once you have the folders set you need to click on Open Stock Airport in the File Menu and Click the Full Scan button. This will allow ADE to collect all the stock airports. You only need to do this once. When it is done there will be a tree of airports that you can select from.

A new version should be available in the next couple of weeks with much better documentation

Thanks for the quick reply, I got it running now the way it should be.

I would like to add a couple of buildings and a couple of static planes to an existing airport, just to make it more accurate, could you recommend a program to do this that is both easy to learn, and as inexpensive as possible?

I'd check over in the SBuilderX forums :) (*and it's free!*)

Hey, now that's always a plus!!
Thanks...

Ok, this looks to me like more of a terrain editor than an object placement-type tool, that is really what I am looking for.
The airport I want to modify is basically correct in it's layout, I just wanted to add a couple of objects to what is already there, not redo the whole thing, I am just starting out with this stuff and that is probably biting off more than I can chew at this point.

There are a number of object placement programs that will work. You might want to take a look at Whisplacer. Search for it on this site. It is also on Avsim and provides in sim placement I believe and is freeware

SBuilderX has an object placement tool in it - it draws from the default FSX items as well as any Rwy12 items you have imported. :)
