• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

New version of FSX Planner available (May 13th)

Hi,

I would only make a litlle suggestion:

Could you create a number for the versions' build?

I would like to always maintain the before version working and it would help me to follow the build sequence.

Thanks,

José

Sure. Let's start with the next one being build #10, as there have been about that many versions so far. :)

Jon... I see no way to do that.... I don't see a way to post a screen shot . I can do that with a link to another site.

Thanks to both of you. I thought there should be a way to do that .... I just didn't see it. If/when I do this again..... I'll do that.
Thanks

FSXPlanner Build #10

Hi,

Sure. Let's start with the next one being build #10, as there have been about that many versions so far. :)

If you please, I want to make some remarks:

1) HOLD_SHORT Orientation

I understand it's enough the options:

FORWARD
BACKWARD

Don't need "reverse" option, in my opinion.

2) FENCE

I couldn't snap the last vertex to the first one. I think the fence will not be closed at that point.

The third is a question: would you implement "fillet" at taxiway/runway intersections (to become rounded)?

Thanks,

José

FSX Planner Build #10 - More remarks

Hi,

1. Do you plan to open in the Main Window other the Airport Window? If not, why do not open the airport on the Main Window?

2. I could not close the windows:

Airport Data and Runway Data;

3. I could not see the coordinates, at left side and at the bottom;

4. The width of the left side of the Runway Data Window could be reduced, so there is no need of the horizontal scroll bar (adjusting the label's position, as they are in the Airport Data).

Now a little question: in a future version, would be possible work with a georeferenced background map (from GE, by example)? I use a second program to see the background (SBuilder for FSX) and from the airplane position create a visual reference between the map and the drawing elements in the FSXPlanner.

Regards,

José

FSX Planner Build #10 - Once more

Hi,

Two more little remarks:

1. To easy the alignment of a Start Location with a Taxiway Point Data (and with the runway axis), I suggest the Start Location symbol be transparent and show up two perpendicular thin lines crossing at its center;

2. The taxiway sign data be scaled on accord with its real size and show up an arrow giving the direction to look the sign.

Thanks,

José

I'm still having the persistant no painted lines in the taxiway. And I notice that when I save the xml and view it in notepad there is a very large gap with no information. This was what was showing in the bad file that I posted first.
I have totally replaced the apron, the taxiways and still the painted lines don't show.
I have included the xml for this morning.
Edit..... Also... could the bgl compiled have the same name as the xml?
Thanks
Joe w.

According to the SDK the two options are FORWARD and REVERSE. So that's what we went with.

Let me test that and get back to you.

We are working on that.

Hi,

1. Do you plan to open in the Main Window other the Airport Window? If not, why do not open the airport on the Main Window?

You can open multiple airports within FSX Planner. The multiple window design is intended to allow you to view more than one airport at once.

2. I could not close the windows:

Airport Data and Runway Data;

Correct, they can't be closed at the moment.

3. I could not see the coordinates, at left side and at the bottom;

The coordinates of the cursor are displayed at the top right of the screen.

4. The width of the left side of the Runway Data Window could be reduced, so there is no need of the horizontal scroll bar (adjusting the label's position, as they are in the Airport Data).

Do you mean that you can manually reduce with width, or that you think it should be reduced?

Now a little question: in a future version, would be possible work with a georeferenced background map (from GE, by example)? I use a second program to see the background (SBuilder for FSX) and from the airplane position create a visual reference between the map and the drawing elements in the FSXPlanner.

This is an interesting idea. The question that comes to mind is how do you make sure the scale of the image you are importing is the same as that used within FSX Planner? (That's a little bit of a rhetorical question, unless you know the answer. :) )

Yes, for some reason when saving the xml back to an existing xml file a lot of blank white space is created. This shouldn't affect the reading of the xml file though. It's just annoying.

I haven't had time to check your problem with the painted lines on the taxiway yet.

I think that the bgl file is created with the same name as the xml file. A separate xml file is created specifically to be compiled. That xml file is named after the airport icao code, which is what the bgl file is then called. Perhaps an option is needed to allow the user to specify the name of the file.

I mean...

Hi,

The space at the left side of the labels on that window is more than the necessary. Reducing it, the window width can be reduced. Reducing the window width there is no need for horizontal scroll bar.

The georeferenced image has it four corner's coordinates known. The window should also have its coordinate reference. So the image will be always on scale. We can see that in the program SBuilder v.205 and Sbuilder for FSX.

José

Well that seems pretty simple then! Do you have an example that we can use to test with, or know of where we can get one?
Thanks!

You will know what the runway is from Airnav... You can plug the runway in at the width and length and go from there.

Georeferenced image

At the below url your can download a bmp image and its four corners' coordinates.
http://www.ptsim.com/sbuilder/gmaps.htm
Its a GE image that can be captured and saved as bmp (24 bits).

The GE site describes the characteristics of the image, as coordinates system and its geoid (normally geographical and WGS84).

Scroll bar

Hi, Russell

Thanks!-Russell

In the image, the vertical arrow shows up the space to be reduced to eliminate the horizontal scroll bar.

One thing more...

Hi, Russell

I forgot to ask for the possibility to show up taxiway signs at real scale, so the user could have an idea about its location.

Also, if you could add an arrow giving the direction the sign will be read would be very useful.

Kind regards,

José

Not sure there's a good solution to that. The vertical scrollbar is necessary because there are more properties than fit on the display, so you need to scroll to them. The names of the properties farther down (if you scroll down) are longer, and so need more room. I've attached a shot of what it looks like for me.

As they are they are pretty small, so making them any smaller would make them quite difficult to see I think.

The way they are drawn now, an extra line is included on the side that has the writing on it.

How do you get those images to appear in the post? I can only see an attachment option, not an 'insert this image into my post' option.
