• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

New version of FSX Planner available (May 13th)

How do you get those images to appear in the post? I can only see an attachment option, not an 'insert this image into my post' option.

I upload the image in ImageShack.

In this window, where I'm writing now, there's an icon (Insert Image).

This open a window where I paste the ImageShack url (the last on in the option list).

That's all there's to that.

By the way, which is your screen resolution? The mine is 1024 x 768. I think this is the most common.

Screen resolution

Hi, Russel

That's why your screen (window without HORIZONTAL scroll bar) is different from the mine.

As you are a developer, I would suggest you to use a screen resolution that most of your users will do, that is, 1024 x 768, I suppose.

Kind regards,

José

Options...

Hi, Russell

1. Regarding fences drawing (the last and first vertex not snapping to) I remember you that the apron verteces seems to be similar and you could draw the fences the same way as aprons, where the polygon is automatically closed.

2. I tried to insert a taxiway point data between two existent points but did not get. Any way to do that? what about using INS key (insert)?

3. I suggest to add a delete option with the keyboard (DEL key) for any object previously selected. Most programs act this way.

Regards,

José

1. Within FSX I don't think that fences close themselves. So I wouldn't want to have them do so in FSX Planner. I think a good option may be to create a finishing point which is at the same location as the start point. So you get the impression of the fence being closed.

2. To insert a taxiway point into an existing taxiway, hold down the shift key when clicking the mouse.

3. We will add the Delete key as an option to delete the currently selected object.

Thanks for the ideas.

We actually did a survey recently for one of our other applications asking users what their screen resolution was. We though, as you say, that it would most likely be 1024 x 768, but that turned out not to be the case. It was fairly evenly distributed between varying resolutions of 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1280x900, 1280x800, 1600x1200. (and even a few 800x600!) So based on that we use a width of 1280 as standard.

Fences can be closed, yes

Yes. Fences CAN be closed in FSX.

Just make the last vertex equal to the first one.

Of course, you can let it be opened to simulate an entrance.

Thanks,

José

I didn't mean that they can't be closed, rather that they are not automatically closed.

Right now you can create an end point for a fence and place it right over the start point for the fence, simulating a closed fence. I wouldn't want to have the fence do this automatically when you finish creating it because if you didn't want that to happen it would be annoying.

Perhaps something like holding the shift key down when you finish the fence would then create a final point which is at the same location as the starting point?

It looks fine to me.

Thanks for your attention,

Russell,

AWESOME tool, everyone appreciates your work and effort into a project like this. I know that personally most of the modifications I do to FS are modifying airports and 'fixing' them to better accuracy, and it's good to see another tool besides AFCAD that will do this.

Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words Matt! It's great to know that FSX Planner is helping people and making FSX more enjoyable.

My first attempt at a major reconstruction job and just a couple of comments/suggestions.

PHJR sits on the coast of O'ahu and is woefully misplaced by default. So that means I need to pick everything up and shove it further inland. With AFCAD I could do a Select Everything and shift locations. That would make it a lot easier than having to move every little piece. When I try to reposition the runways I am unable to select an edge and move, Planner places me in the middle of the runway, which means I must zoom out and lose any precision when placing. Think "pin the tail on the donkey" when it comes to placing an 8,000' runway. So it would be nice to be able to grab a corner and shift that way.

So I haven't figured out the best way yet to accomplish my moving chore. The AFCAD edit and then pour over XML adding things that can't be done versus FSX Planner. But there's still time to tinker, just wish I wasn't such a slow learner!:D

Picking up runway and aprons right now always does so by the center of the runway or apron. I agree that this is a problem. We will fix this so that you can pick these up from whereever you click on them.

As for moving the entire airport to a new lat/lon location, the easiest way to do that would be to just enter a new airport lon/lat position in the airport properties display (top left). That will then move the entire airport to the new location.
