• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Newbie - Issue with Standard FSX Aircraft Export

Hi,
I have has some success with the newest version of SAMM 2.
I selected the C208B and created an aircraft mdl for and then imported it into ModelConverterX to clean up the prop texture and default elevation for placement purposes in Instant Scenery. All is good.

Then I wanted to do the default Baron 58. All good except the landing gear is raised and the same applies to the King Air.

Is there someone who can save my brain some serious misery by perhaps suggesting what might be a quick fix? Seems strange that a default aircraft does this.

canuck21, I have just converted both the FS9 and FSX Barons and King Airs without difficulty. The wheel are down after SAMM converts the model. But, "all bets are off" once you submit the static model to MCX. Are you sure you don't have the "Gear Up" option checked?

Hi,
I did not have the gear up checked. I actually tried using it after the first attempt did not seem to work.
I will try again but this time I will try to create a library using that option and also try to use the output model option to place directly into a library to see if that works differently.
PerhapssModelConverterX is messing things up as you have intimated.
Thanks for the reply and suggestion.

I have now managed to get the items exported to models (with wheels down) and loaded into my application.
It does appear, in hindsight, that using MCX was not such a good idea.
What I was trying to do was remove the texture that made the model appear to have a spinning propeller.
In MCX I was able to do that if I used the extra exported "Save A/C mdl file" as opposed to the single mdl file that is created by SAMM.
That file would not load into MCX while the optional one did.

Darryl, two points:
  • SAMM has a model viewer that displays the static models as they are converted. So, its easy to determine if an issue resides within SAMM or elsewhere.
  • MCX is a great program. However, it is so powerful that users can easily (and inadvertently) introduce difficulties. If you had checked "Engines running" SAMM would have applied the proper propeller texture - assuming the aircraft model being converted uses "standard" logic for engine control.
Glad you succeeded.

Don,
When I did the conversion with SAMM the engines running was unchecked as were all of the other optional checkboxes.
I did view the model with SAMM and the spinning prop texture was evident.
You mentioned that you had converted the Baron with no difficulty.
Was your resulting model showing in a similar manner?

Don't know what you mean by "a similar manner". The aircraft converted for me normally with all appendages. What is it that you now see as problematic?

If you review the image that I posted you can see that the props appear to be spinning.
That is my only outstanding question.

Darryl, if Engine(s) Running is checked, static models are rendered using the prop texture supplied with the model *if any". So, yes, it's similar.
