• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Been hacking away at this filler project for a year now when time permits. Mapping for textures about done and more focus now on the "flight model" and gauges. It is definitely different than aircraft. :)

Thank you Sir; she is coming together but much yet to do. I decided to do this when the "Bounty" sunk during the hurricane. I hope it will be a fitting representation. :)

Now, is that ship going to be used for discovering another continent or kidnapping British sailors for ransom?

It actually does look impressive though. Gotta love those old, old wooden ships.

Those water reflections would be indicative of FSX, would they not?

I couldn't say, Max has been getting my attention too long to remember! But if it is, things could be interesting on the Shupe front. :)

LOL Thanks y'all for all the comments:) The model is developed for FS9 but I always test in both sims and release for both.
Yes, the water is from FSX.

Mutiny? Naw! Not enuf characters on board to mutiny. :)

Still have some mapping and textures to do, navigation panel to add, and FM to complete so this will be a while yet.
May need some help on the "Sail Management" gauge though if there are any FS9 XML users about.
I have a rotating compass rose, wind direction and speed indicators, sail positions for wind direction, barometric pressure, "Ground" speed, and "point of sail" configurations to be selected based on wind speed and direction, and call outs for sail deployment configurations to be done.

Mr. Shupe

This is another remarcable and amazing job; in a few words, it is magnificent. Keep up the good work!

Kindest regards from a huge fan!
Sergio Kauffman.
:D

LOL Dutcheeseblen ... but since its FS9 based, negative. :banghead:

Thanks everyone for the encouraging comments. Taking a break from the modeling for a bit to try to get some basic Sail Management gauge functionality before I do sail animations. As I am not a gauge xml guru, I am trying to get at least some of the basic info displayed before I attack the sail yard arm animations. The sails will have 10 position settings based upon wind direction, and there will be several "sail sets" for differing wind speeds.

The attached is just some rough work to focus on the xml functionality and achieve a final design before the gauge artwork is done by Nigel. Thanks to Sasha for his knowledge sharing regarding larger sailing vessels.

How will you get it to lean when the wind's blowing from the side? And don't forget the ship will lean away from the turns.

I already have this behavior incorporated naturally in the "flight" model. Although early yet in its development, the ship should provide a normal feel to it. Response to wind direction and speed is already being experienced, although not yet refined.

Will there be an FSX native model, or will it be an FS9 model that's just tested to be usable in FSX?

It will be an FS9 model that could be used as a port over should you choose. I have both sims so I test and use in both.

Ships of this weight (215 tons) do not "lean" that much in normal winds. In high winds, the top gallant and royal sails are not used, and if heavy cross winds, the jibs may be lowered to minimize that.
The real world Bounty normal speed was 5-6 knots although slightly higher speeds were sometimes achieved in heavy winds. The original bounty displacement was 415 gross tons.

I am setting this project up for both diesel and wind power with normal speed of 15 knots achievable and slightly higher when running ahead of the winds.
