• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v5 Photosceneries and Autogen Packages for the world

Dear friends!

I have some bad news today.

In short: I have a batch file in my development directory that deletes the contents of the development temp folder. The idea is that when a scenery is finished, I empty the folder and prepare it for the next scenery.

Unfortunately, I had renamed the temp folder yesterday - today, when I executed the batch file, it was not the contents of the temp folder that were deleted.

Instead, the contents of my entire development directory were deleted. By the time I realised what was going on, 60% of all the files in it had already been deleted. Not in the recycle bin, but really deleted.
Although I immediately tried to restore everything with recovery tools, almost all the files are irrevocably gone.

Especially my 3 á 5000-10000 line scripts for autogen creation, my files for vegetation assignment as well as some shapefiles which contained essential data.
I was able to recover one of the scripts, with about 8000 lines. The last 3 lines were still readable. The rest - "NUL".

A backup existed - until about last week, when I re-set up my backup computer.

In other words:

Everything I needed for the autogen creation is gone. Irretrievably gone.

I can't actually write how desperate I am, but I guess it's all to no avail. The files are gone.

Whether it will ever go on here again - I don't know.

---
Addendum:
Before there are any misunderstandings: Of course, all my sceneries are still there. Only the scripts I used to create the sceneries are gone.

I too learned the hard way of loosing coding with only one backup. I now always have two separate backups. A few months ago, I had asked Matthias about sharing his code to benefit the community since he does not sell his work. Bummer... as that could have been his 2nd backup. Oh well... good luck my friend. ☹️

MatthiasKNU thank you for the work done and he hoped that you will complete it as soon as possible and complete Italy as well

Guys, thank you all for your support!

And well, maybe I have some good news after all:
3 more countries are almost complete on my disk that I can finish without the scripts - including an update for Tunisia, a new version of Portugal and - Italy!
What I can't say yet, however, is when and if the sceneries will really be ready.

Hello everyone!

As announced, the new version of Tunisia has now been completed.
In particular, the focus was also on the buildings, so that the cities in particular now also look good.
Thanks to Patrick, who modelled some buildings in Tunis, which I was allowed to use in this scenery!

Then - as always - here are some pictures:

You can find more information about my projects - also as always - over here:

Bad news indeed, Matthias - but I feel optimistic about your ongoing motivation! You will see that in most case there will be a hard improvement if you decide to go on with your projects. If your fun is not broken, you will get better results soon... ;)

Dear all!

Since in the meantime the MSFS has found its way into most people's homes, I don't really know if anyone is interested anymore... Anyway.

Unfortunately, it wasn't enough for an Easter surprise - but today is the day!
After many, many months of work, Italy is finally finished.

Even though Italy's autogen was already finished before my scripts "disappeared", it was not easy to realise Italy so well.
On the one hand, the type of vegetation was a big problem, since in the north you find the Alps with alpine vegetation, but in the south a highly Mediterranean climate.

Overall, however, I am very, very satisfied with the way Italy looks now.
Especially the areas around the airports Milan-Malpensa, Rome Fiumicino, Naples and Palermo I have also created with a little more detail.

Here are a few pictures:

Yes, and that's almost the end of today's post - as you know, you can find more information here, as always:

Well, and there is a little preview after all:
I hope that within the next few months 3 more holiday destinations in Europe will be ready, for which people have been waiting for a very long time.

So - best regards!

Dear friends!

It took a long time - more than a year to be exact - but at some point almost all of Europe is finished.
By now, most people have probably switched to the MSFS, so maybe no one cares anymore. But I still want to finish the last countries I have in the pipeline.

So today I am very happy to be able to introduce you to 3 more countries rather from the south of Europe. As I said, the amount of work was gigantic and it took a very, very long time. But the result is now really good.

Unfortunately, I haven't even taken any pictures of the first country I finished. The country is North Macedonia, and is situated north of Greece.

Greece is the 2nd country I finished today, and here I have pictures, of course!

However, there is still something to mention:
There are already excellent sceneries for Greek islands such as Corfu, Skiathos, Mykonos, Rhodes or Santorini.
In order to achieve the greatest possible compatibility with these sceneries, I have decided NOT to create these islands.

The third and last country I have for you today is in the very southwest of Europe - Portugal.
I have created mainland Portugal here, the islands (i.e. Madeira and the Azores) are not included.

Again, here are a few pictures:

Yes, you might know how to get the sceneries by now, and here you can find more information about my sceneries as usual:

And here is another announcement on my own behalf:
Another scenery is still to come - Turkey. This will - at least probably - be the last country I will create.
The reasons are probably obvious by now - hardly anyone uses P3D any more, and with the release of the Fenix A320 I am also close to switching to MSFS.
Therefore, the amount of work for the sceneries is simply no longer worth it. You also have to consider that hundreds of hours of work go into each of my sceneries.
I hope you don't hold it against me - and Turkey will come too, I promise.

Furthermore, my sceneries will remain available for the time being - nothing will change here in the near future.

Therefore, at this point, many, many thanks to all of you for your support at all times!

MatthiasKNU, your work is absolutely incredible! Although more and more people have started to use MSFS, there are still a lot of P3D users like myself. Sure, the lighting in MSFS is better, but with your photoscenery and autogen packages, P3D looks as good as MSFS! Thank you for taking the time to make these scernery. I would really like to download your photoscenery package. Could you please send me a PM?

I just took off from Lisbon and must say that your sceneries look absolutely fantastic! The detail and in particular the amount of autogen is just out of this world. I have your photoreal plastered over 3 75" tvs in 4K and it is truly immersive! Landing in Madeira in a little while.

I now have most of your european countries, and I must say that, for me, these sceneries have been a real game changer. P3D never looked so good!

I am really grateful for your hard work !

Just landed in Funchal, Madeira. Fantastic. I am speechless! For those flying to Madeira dont forget to get the Madeira scenery also!

In order to achieve the greatest possible compatibility with these sceneries, I have decided NOT to create these islands.
Now that is a really smart approach to this compatibility challenge :) Just keep going since your sceneries look great.

Dear friends!

I would like to keep a promise today - namely by announcing the completion of Turkey now!

It took some time, and with the release of the Fenix A320 I honestly doubted myself whether I would even finish Turkey.
But now the time has come and I have some pictures for you!

And now, finally, a little surprise: I continue to develop.

After I announced the end of my development for the time being, a good developer friend asked me:
"Hörst Du wirklich komplett auf? Das ist sehr schade." ("Are you really going to stop completely? That is a great pity.")
I answered:
"Momentan siehts eher schon so aus, ich habe meine Entwicklungs-Ordner auf jeden Fall schon gezippt und auf einer Externen Festplatte abgelegt." ("At the moment it looks more like this, I have already zipped my development folders and put them on an external hard drive.")

Well, it can happen that quickly - I have extracted my development environment again, and at the moment gigabytes of GIS data are running through to create new autogen for North Africa.

A small share of the blame also goes to this news article from a German FS news site:
I read the 788 million buildings - and I was interested to see how many buildings I have built in my projects so far. Well, I don't know exactly, I haven't counted them all.
However, if I use my current scripts as a reference, I claim that there are more buildings in my sceneries.

There is also a second reason why I am developing for P3D again: namely the MSFS.
Does that sound strange? But it is.
Unfortunately, MSFS still has major problems, especially with frame drops and CTDs.
If 3 out of 4 flights end in a CTD, it's just no fun. That's why I've returned to the P3D, and now I know again what I like about the P3D.

So now I would like to show 3 more pictures - from my latest development, one picture from Morocco (Marrakech), and 2 from Algeria (Algiers and El Oued):

I hope that these two countries will also be ready soon, and I do think that it is a huge step forward compared to the previous versions.

So, long story short:
Turkey is ready, and more information can be found here, as always:

That's it from me for now - I hope that someone else is happy about it and otherwise all I have left for today is to wish you a nice weekend!

And now, finally, a little surprise: I continue to develop.
1 - Looking at these screenshots above: You are simply put too damn to stop now, Just keep pushing all of your skill-sets to an even greater flight/lod level @MatthiasKNU

There is also a second reason why I am developing for P3D again: namely the MSFS. Does that sound strange?
2 - Not at all! Since the entire Lockheed Martin P3D ecosystem is at least 10 years ahead of anything MSFS2020 on all fronts,
and is being maintained and supported by a bunch of truly professional developers who are doing a great job, aiming and serving serious high-end customers on the global simulations market.

3 - TIP: "Go (only) with (/above) the Pro's" (and redefine the entire landscape in the process) since that is - up there - where the quality of your projects and work truly belong.

any chance South East Asia in your list? like Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, i hope got in the list
