FSX Project completed: Airbus A320 with simplified FMC with real Vertical navigation management

Thank you Thomas,

Now, the project is near of the end. I have just to rebuild ECAMS, in HD and close the reality.

If you want test the aircraft, I have made a complete pack, with install manual, and a user manuel (not completed) :

This pack include all necessary files and user manuals, exept Loggerx.dll that must be downloed on the Robbie McElrath website (read my install manual pdf file).

it comes with 52 airports.

This link is : Pack A320 FD-FMC beta 0.60 May,12

File = 261 Mo

Attention :

I have change the color of the En-Route waypoints and Terminals Waypoints on the ND and the FMS map, but I havn't updated the user manual about this fact.

So, Waypoint "En-Route" that was Yellow, are now in Magenta color (according the real Airbus )

and Terminal Waypoints , that was RED are now BLUE.

The FMC airport database contains at this time the following airports :

Blacks airports have only SID for the moment
Blue airports have SID and STAR for the moement
- Red airports have SID , STAR et FINAL APPROACHES (ILS, LOC, RNAV )

SWITZERLAND
============

LSGG Geneva Cointrin SID by Jean-pierre Varnier - STAR by francois Dore <----- updated march, 25 : STAR DJL 1N fixed;
LFSB - Bale Mulhoouse - France / Switzerland - by Michel Rapp <---- updated 24 march, now with STAR

Holding pattern in STAR and approach are engaged by pressing the "CSTR" button on the EFIS.

You know if a waypoint has a holding pattern by look at the Descent or approach page of the FMS, or when the name of the waypoint has a "*" at the end, on the lower left of the ND.

YOu must to have a throttle joystick in good condition (without wrong contact) because while climb or descent, the throttle is active under A/THR (I have write my own A/THR code) and for the throttles detent.

Thank you for your feedback.

In the user manual, the approach mode is not describes, but it works. You must load your approach before the end of the STAR, or when your are in the holding pattern of the IAF.

Hi,

Although my project seems interested few people here, I announced that it will be completely finished in early September.

I think ( but maybe I'm wrong ) that It will be the first Freeware with a real vertical navigation management in the sense, where A/THR works like the real liners, with a constant N1 setting and a variable angle climb and descent controled by the FMS, with speed and altitude constraints managements.

14 months of works.

If you want more information, here is the website :
http://www.db-online.fr/dbonline/?gtlang=en

I will transpose this FMS to the A330/340/380 and B747/777 in the fall.

And i search a modeler, who would like to create a VC for the B747, because my panel manage many functions that don't exit in the B747 FSX VC (bleeds, engine fire procedure, estinghuishers, generators, fuel pumps, crossfeed, fuel sytem management...), to adapt it to the Posky 747-400 and 747-8F.

Hi,

A small video of my FD_FMC project on A320, with a take off from Innsbruck LOWI, with the SID ADILO 1H and the FMC management of the speed constraint for the initial turn and the complete vertical navigation with constant thrust and variable pitch.

Select in you tube setting "1080p HD" for a better quality : A small video in HD from a Innsbruck Takeoff, with ADILO 1H SID and the use of the FMC and the constraint speed

Version is the beta 0.67

You propably already know you achieved a true masterpiece of programming there, but nevertheless I have to tell you once again...

François - you did an AWESOME job ! ! ! Respect.

And for me especially the invisible vertical navigation part is impressive.
(Did you choose to use pid controllers for your autopilot?)

Please excuse my ignorance, what about the number of supported airports...is this database, where the data come from, still being worked on?

Best regards,
Steven

Hi sierraB,

Thank you for your comments.

As I am not a good mathematician, I don't know how write a real PID controler. So, I have search during many days alternative solution. I found a solution by use timers to control pitch according the body acceleration of the aircraft and the speed, with several levels of value, that work in the same time, to simulate a PID.

I had must to do hundred of test during few weeks to find the right values, but now the result works.
My system has a disadvantage : Like I use timers, my gauge is dependent of the framerate. If the framerate is permanantly too low (less than 15 FPS), my code doesn't work properly. This is the only problem.

For the airport database, It is very long to build it. We are 4 people to work on it. Today, with have completed 70 airports (a few have only SID..).

But we work hard to add more airport.

The actual list is here in a PDF file : Airports List

And the goal is to adapt this simplified FMC at many freeware.

As for the database you will have a lot of work ahead I assume, but be sure it's worth it :)
It's an invaluable freeware addition to FSX!

I don't use pids neither. Too much effort. Most of the time there are indeed so much easier ways...
Using a pid you'd need -dunno- 100 lines of code??
You can achieve the same results with ~3 lines of code as well

Good luck,

Steven

Thank you very much for your encourragements.

After 1 year and a half of work, I am close to the end, but the further I go, the more work becomes slow to find errors in the code, because the code has become very large !

About airports database, we will accelerate their achievement, but U.S. airports are problematics because the U.S. charts are not designed like European charts and they have a big problem: Most of the time, there is no link between the end of the STAR and the IAF of the approach (probably because only radar vectoring by ATC), so it is not easy to encode US approaches.

Francois

:)

Hi,

the project is close to the end.

Here is a sample video of a takeoff from Innsbruck airport, Austria, with a "8" particular SID with a strait first turn between mountains. Aircraft totally controled by my little FMS, with SID realized according official charts.

Climb in managed N1 mode .

Select HD1080P

Project has been delayed to solve some bugs in vertical navigation code (Aircraft pitch control by FMC) , but now all is Ok and I am waiting the user manual French to English translation.

A complete flight video, with comments, in HD, of a very hard approach (Visual Runway 20 approach of LFKJ - France). There are others videos to see how start from cold and dark statut. All overhead switches work (estiinguishers, bleeds, fuel system.....)

I think that project will be ready at the end of the month.

Francois

Many thanks. This video doesn't show all the potential of the panel, but these gauges represents 3 years of work and without FSdeveloper communauty, it would not have been possible.

Many thanks to FSdeveloper members !

Hi,

Release version available ( A320 FD-FMC CFM & IAE 0.99 ) , with English/french install manual (but Aircraft User manual is only in French today, English translation is not completed). There is also a beta of the A318 (but requires the A320 pack installed).

You can test and download aircraft here : http://freenavdbgroup.com/?page_id=159 full aircraft pack (340 Mo).

It is provided with more than 100 airports procedures.

I am waiting english translation of user manual to upload aircraft on AVSIM library.

Thanks

Francois

Hello,

Just a message to say that project is completed and available on AVSIM library :

http://library.avsim.net/esearch.ph...0fd-fmc_iae_cfm_331210.zip&Author=&CatID=root

Last feature added is the possibility to select gradient (or multiple gradient per approach leg) for VOR and RNAV approach.

Huge thanks for your amazing efforts in working on and releasing this project. The aircraft and panels look excellent. I look forward to checking it out.

Cheers,

Scott

I think I've asked this before:
Is the VC model the one from the default A321? Was it adjusted for the longitudinal difference between an A320's and A321's fuselage?
