• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

question about CAT

I'm just started to learn to use CAT today..really good tool but I just wonder if what I would like to do, could be done using it..

I would like to make a staircar on my airport scenery, move approaching an aircraft after the aircraft land and parked..it would be trigger by setting the nav 2..is it possible to do that using CAT ?

Hi,

Well you will have to make the animation of the staircar in Gmax. Then you can export the animation, with the Keep Files option and then modify the source files with CAT.

Thomas

thank you for the tip Thomas (apprecieate of you for helping me)...but do I have to animate the animation on single new file (I mean create a gmax new file of animated staircar ) or could I use animation that already animated in my airport scenery ?

Hi,

I don't really understand what you mean here.

As Thomas already told the most work is to make the proper animation in GMax. You need to make sure that the height of the stair matches the aircraft (and the end of the animation should be close enough to the aircraft of course).

After that you just export and let CAT tweak the animation for you, to be able to trigger it. Then the only step is to place the object in the scenery, like you do with any object.

...actually what I mean is, the object that I animated (in my case the staircar)...do I have to make it a a new gmax file (that's contain only the animated staircar) compiled it and tweak it using CAT..or could I just use scenery file that I already made containing staircar that I've animated, compiled them and used the CAT..

Hi,

Ah, ok, now I get it.

In general it is easier to make object like this as a separate GMax file. Then you get a MDL object with only the stair. This makes it easier to place multiple copies of it later on for example.

But if you have already design the GMax file for a stair, you can add the animation to that of course.

thank you very much arno :)

ok this is what I've made, I skipped animation condition and animation second condition and I choose the animation triggered using nav 2 and the frequency I decided is 116.00 (that would be 1160h right ?)..and I skipped enable secondry condition also..and at the end, CAT created the xxx_cat.mdl along with xxx_cat.asm and xxx_cat_0.asm. so where do I go from there ? In the tutorial it's said to use bglc to compile them, but there's no xml file here, so how do I compile them ? (I've tried dragging the asm file but nothing happen)

No, 116.00 would be 1600h. You always need to drop the first 1.

You don't need the ASM file anymore. CAT already compiled the new MDL file for you. Now you need to change the XML file you used to place your non-tweaked object and make sure it uses the new MDL file. After that you can compile the XML file like always.

If you had not placed the object before, just take the example XML file made by GMax and tweak it to use the new MDL file.

yes it works!!..thank you very much you guys!! . :D :D :D .now I just want to get rid this missing object when looking them moving approach the aircraft from certain angle..
