• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v5 REIL lights

for my modifications it is often required to add REIL lights separately, but unfortunately it can be done separately, only together with EDGE lights.
this option does not suit me, since I most often use custom EDGE lights...
and i can't find the REIL lights anywhere for them to work separately, i like the brightness and flash range of the default REIL lights and maybe someone knows the name of this effect so i can add it via MCX manually (when i need it)?

I believe the default REIL effects are hard coded, i.e. they are not in the effects folder?

You should be able to add REILs independently by choosing them as the Approach type
this is the first thing i tried to do but unfortunately as i said above it won't work if we didn't add any EDGE lights :(
this problem is in the sim engine, which the guys from LM don't care about:

looks like the truth, but it would be great to have access to a similar effect so that you can put it even one by one (and not in pairs)

The sim engine isn't involved in AFLT. In any case, I afraid what you have is all there will ever be with AFLT.

strange, but in this case the logic is absolutely identical to the sim:
REIL lights without Edge lights we can set, but on separate this won't work(REIL lights will not be active in the sim), only if we set together( REIL lights + Edge lights) then this will work...
P.S
but can you tell me the model or effect that AFLT uses for REIL lights (bright strobe)?
i will try to post it manually(via MCX).

The operation of AFLT REILs - like all other AFLT lights - is controlled by software. AFLT sets edge lights and approach lights separately. So , if you can't get REILs to appear separately, then you are not setting things up as necessary. If you want to use AFLT, I suggest you take a close look at the AFLT User Manual. I am not in a position to provides the same level of support as I did last Spring.

or perhaps the problem (which I mentioned above) still exists ... of course, I read the instructions, but all my actions look correct. maybe someone can check this as well?

This thread is very confusing. Sometimes talking about the default lights, sometimes about AFLT lights.

niksan29, are you saying you cannot get REIL lights to appear without edge lights when using the AFLT program to place the lights and NOT using default lights?

Here is an example of using AFLT lights to create a REIL without runway edge lights. The two white lights flash like strobes. The two lights on the upper left are a VASI.

Sure. I start with a typical runway with edge lights and no approach lights (works the same if it does have them):

1. First let's add the REIL lights. Click the runway, right click, and choose Add/Edit Approach Lights

2. Choose the runway end on the left.
3. Choose REIL from the drop down box.

Click Place Lights.
Now you will see in the display that the only approach lights are the REIL lights.

4. Now we will remove the Edge lights (if present). Click the runway and right click.
5. Choose Delete Edge and CL Lights. Say yes to the warning message.

Now the runway looks like this:

And when you compile the BGL file and place into FS it appears as in the pic in my previous post.

Hope this helps,

It depends on what type of lights you specify in the compile process. I used BGL Lights, which do not use an effect. If you do use effects, the AFLT effects will be copied into your Effects folder. Details in the AFLT manual.

oops, I didn't expect that...
my P3Dv5 registry entry is valid and active, but still, maybe someone knows which registry key AFLT is being checked?

I don't have v5, but the lines in the AFLT.ini file that refer to v4 are:

Path to P3Dv4=C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4
Path to P3Dv4 SDK=C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4 SDK 4.5.14.34698
Path to P3Dv4 Compiler=C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4 SDK 4.5.12.30293\World\Scenery\bglcomp.exe

Perhaps changing these to P3Dv5 and adjusting the paths to your computer's file locations would work?

You already have one in the main AFLT folder. Just add those three lines at the top of the file. Make a backup first.

I had no ini at the first start, so I created a new with only 3 lines

Path to P3Dv4=C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4
Path to P3Dv4 SDK=C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4 SDK 4.5.14.34698
Path to P3Dv4 Compiler=C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4 SDK 4.5.12.30293\World\Scenery\bglcomp.exe

(Of course for my fs2004 installation, then AFLT started under Win 11 and created a complete .ini)
