• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi everyone!

Check out the first screenshots of the Mt. Kilimanjaro photo realistic scenery (aerial imagery) we are working on!

Approximately 150 sq. km, replaces default generic textures and seamlessly blends into surrounding terrain.

Imagery only, no improvement on the default (and rather low-res) mesh.

This looks seriously detailed Misho! May I ask what kind of tool(s-chain) and workflow do(es) you(r team) use to make this scenery pixel-magic happening?

Hi Ronald! Thanks! No real magic - we simply used Augustin Winther's PDF guide available on this site! It went smooth, although you will need lots of RAM and patience for larger imagery!

Cheers,
Misho

Hi everyone! I am pleased to announce that we have completed the Mount Kilimanjaro Photo Realistic Scenery project for MSFS2020! The scenery has been color and shadow corrected and seamlessly blended into the surrounding generic textures. It retains the default vegetation and 3D structures. The final area covered is 170 sq.km. and the size of the scenery is 4.4Gb.

Here are the screenshots of the final result:

Thanks!

Hard to say... I've been working on it for 3 months or so, but on a part time basis, as I have other projects I am busy with...

It is! I tried it, it is pretty rough, but doable!

I've actually been there, I climbed Kilimanjaro way back in 2003. I am thinking of populating the top with a lot of loose boulders, as the area is full of rubble. THEN it would be a challenge!

Hi!

We are in a holding pattern, waiting to be approved as a MSFS Marketplace partner. I'm not sure what the holdup is, we've applied a month ago and it is still "in review" stage. Also - we need MS to have DRM in place for scenery packages. They said this is "in development", so hopefully they sort that out soon. Right now, if we published this scenery in the MSFS2020 marketplace, there is nothing preventing people from purchasing it, and then putting it on torrents. Or at least that's my understanding - maybe they sorted it out already.

Wait, so you are withholding bonafide, guaranteed financial transactions, over the fear that one of these transactions, will open Pandora's Box and in so doing, erode future transactions? Because meanwhile, while you delay, someone won't just go ahead and publish their own version of the same product?

I personally believe the slimy underbelly of the internet never, ever would stoop so low as to "purchase," so any securities are meaningless, you aren't going to force them to buy - people either decide to be honest, or they don't and "securities" only tax the honest ones, to assuage the fear of "less than maximum profits." Because ultimately, there is no software that cannot be hacked and the value of the software is like blood in the water. Adobe Photoshop is an excellent example, if you want it, payment is optional, perhaps to assuage guilt.

Meanwhile, more copies of pirated software among people who would never pay anyway, equals more exposure, imo. The proof to the profit of giving software away, is Microsoft's world's most popular computer operating system. Windows 10 is not free, however it operates virtually without restriction, if unlicensed by the same MS, that you want to assure you of DRM.

Ya, all of the above is true - with one exception - In the past, I had my software purchased by someone with a stolen credit card, and then putting registration details on torrents. THAT still happens a lot. Luckily, I had a somewhat sophisticated copy protection in place, and I could basically prevent software from functioning. It was kind of entertaining when I got a bunch of support emails asking me "why isn't my software working?" (they all had the same pirated registration code). However, this cannot be done with the scenery file, as there is nothing to "run" and check validity.

The fact is, even without DRM, we are still on hold as to the MSFS2020 partner program. MSFS Marketplace has similar sceneries there for sale, so we would be OK with selling them there even without DRM. Also, we have approached 3 major FS addon online shops with the following responses (without naming names): "please give us 2 weeks to assess" (that was a month ago), "we don’t have the spare time for any new releases, please reach out late fall", and, no response whatsoever. So yeah, the struggle is real .
