• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Removing default game buildings

Hello everyone,

I would like to know if there is a way to remove those generic buildings that are in the skylines of some cities that don't actually look like what they look in-game. Some examples are Nashville, Louisville, Mobile, Oklahoma City, etc.

I've looked everywhere and still haven't found a useful solution.

Here's a picture of what i'm talking about

Thank you in advance.

How you would remove these buildings depends on what kind of buildings they are. If the building is a library object or generic building then you can use an exclusion rectangle. If the building is autogen then you would use a polygon, airport background, exclude autogen. You need to test and see which works.

Go into your display settings and turn the Autogen Slider all the way down.

If the buildings disappear they are autogen, if not they are library objects or generic buildings.

BTW, I doubt anything that tall is autogen.

cheers,
Lane

Thank you for your answers.

I know those buildings are not autogen because they are located exactly where the two buildings I'm trying to put in the game. My question is how do I delete them accurately, because when I tried to remove every generic building in downtown Nashville, it deleted also the autogen using ADE, even without choosing to delete autogen

There is a program Instant Scenery (payware but not so expensive). With this program you can identify and delete or move such objects. It is very powerful and I like it.

I removed the generic buildings from downtown Nashville. I am attaching pictures as well as my ade project file so that you can see the exclusion rectangles that I made. From the pictures you can see that removing the generic buildings does not exclude the autogen. I hope this helps you see how it is done.

Wow dude, thank you, amazing work.
Did you use only ADE? And if so, how did you manage to remove exactly those buildings? Did you use any tools, or put a background map?

I'm asking this because at the moment I'm, honestly, not interested in spending money on a program. Thank you for the suggestion anyway Fluttermann.

I only used ADE and FSX. In FSX I started at KBNA and slewed over to downtown. I then used ADE to make an exclusion rectangle for each building. This needs to be as small as you can reasonably make but should cover the whole building. You can see this if you open my ADE project file in ADE. I then compiled and placed the bgl file into an active scenery folder in FSX. The downside here is that if you only want to modify the downtown area you are also creating an unmodified airport bgl. If you have an addon KBNA you will have to be sure that it loads after the unmodified airport.

Thank you for your help man. I finally managed to put the buildings in the right place. Just one more question, which box do I have to tick if I want to remove those buildings that are unique? Say, for example, the Transamerica Pyramid

Glad to hear you are getting the result that you wanted. You would tick the Library Object box.
