• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Replacing "transparent" roads stripes with darker texture or color

Hello,

I am wondering if the roads are based on a texture with a transparency? And can it be replaced with a darker one?

I would like to control the snow coverage with read world snow data where the roads for now all blocked with snow and now way to navigate VFR here in Canada...

I understood that brighter textures are covered with snow while darker are less or not. That's why I wanted to see if this trick would work (i.e: making roads stripes darker)

Thanks

I think the default overlay is hard coded 😥
You can use a product like this

Or if you are familiar with gis software and scripting you can create the same yourself for free (e.g. I did mine for Italy)
The results are...meh... especially when there is no snow, because the method consist of overlaying a semi transparent dark concrete/asphalt polygon
Therefore it will dark the roads painted lines as well, and you will notice the difference where the polys are placed from the imagery (the OSM data doesn't always match the underlying imagery)

There is a faster and cheaper solution: install the beta, it will do the same job, and it does that on runways and aprons too
Not perfect, but more flyable

Thank you for the explanations. Yes, I will perhaps buy the Canada Addon , seems like my only hope for VFR flying in winter here.

Sorry but not sure to understand what beta are you reffering to?

The current Msfs beta contains a fix that removes snow from roads and Airports
(The Devs talked about that in latest q&a)

It is working, pretty much, so far..better than nothing 🙂

If you are not in the Beta, think it will go live/stable within the end of January

Oh great thanks! I did not know they were working on a fix, will wait for release version then.

But I already bought the Canada Road Mod you mentioned to me and it works Ok, although the roads are clean cut, dark grey when snow is from real data and not manually set. But it does the job for now... Until the end of the month :)
