• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Resample: References to SDE- Curiosity aroused

Hi There, in the list of the various 'Resample.exe' parameters in the SDK documention there are references to using Vector data held in an SDE database (SDE = Spatial Database engine, its a way of storing GIS data [Shapefiles] in a logical and efficient way)

Ive got some landcover data that I want to resample into LandClass information....the raw data is held in a featureclass (SDE equivalent of a shapefile) and the documentation seems to indicate that I can use the resample tool to convert this vector data into a BGL (Similar to Shp2Vec although there doesnt appear to be anyway to use Shp2Vec to make landclass data?)

Can anyone confirm that this tool can be used for this? (Im asking first as it will take a bit of work to re-reproject and re-attribute the data)
And if it can, what attributes/column names do you need to use....SDK docs dont mention this

Cheers in advance.

We (ACES) definitely ran Resample against SDE databases. A lot. I'm not sure if we were able to ship all the parts necessary to do so. I'm not sure of the specifics of attributes/column names. I'll try to ask tomorrow.

Damn....that's a shame
Is it at all possible to release them/post them- It would make generating scenery for large areas a lot easier (which is presumably why they were written).....

Pretty please :)

Failing that, the SDK docs dont mention much about the image format for landlclass...im assuming (based on the resample example) that you need a grayscale image where the pixel value = the olsen LC value in the table??

I.e. Black (0) = Ocean, Sea, Large Lake etc?

hmmm actually.....another question. Is it possible to use Shp2Vec to convert shapefiles into Landclass data? Would this get around the 1.2km pixel resolution limit? (I.e. be able to have really detailed Land Class data?)
.
There are references to using GUIDs to define Landclass areas (listed in VectorShapePropertiesGuids.txt) I originally thought it couldnt because it was only mentioned in relation to exclusions in the SDK docs....???

But now maybe im thinking they can......or will this simply resample to a 1.2km 'Image' (i.e loose the scalability of vector data)

Cheers

Hi Timmo.

You can draw vectors that use the landclass textures. The terrain.cfg file describes them, and lists their GUID. You would probably want to draw them as a PKX ( park ) type.

You can draw any size/shape you like.
