• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Runway markings

Hi,
While moving an airport and associated runway the markings (ie. idents, centerline, theshholds, etc.) all
initially were present in FSX. However after I added runway "turnarounds" at the ends of the runway, all
of these markings vanished. And I am no longer able to apply them.. Did I do something wrong here ?
I have tried removing the turnarounds and recompiling. I've also deleted the runway and recreated it
(then recompiled), but I haven't figured this out yet and any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thank you,
Ken

Sounds to me something may be covering them up, like a ground polygon? Attaching the AD4 file might help? Along with more details (which runway, etc.).

Hi Tom,
Thank you for your reply, and for offering help. The ad4 is attached. It's a fairly simple
project. >> An atoll in the French Polynesian Islands that I found floating a fur piece
from where it should be. I verified the real world location using Google Earth and
moved the "USS" NTKM to dry land on the Takume Atoll. I have fidgeted with many
airports / runways similar to this one and not witnessed this Rwy marking "fail" before.
The runway idents are 13 and 31 asphalt, and as mentioned above, I'd love to get some
idents, a centerline and threshold markings to "appear" ~:)
I've never successfully used / applied polygons. It is art form that has eluded me
thus far. But I hope to "get after it" one day soon. Do you know of any worthwhile
tutorials dealing with ADE and Polys' ?
Please let me know if any additional info is needed.
Ken

I just converted another French Polynesian Island, Hikeuru airport (NTGH) from coral surface to asphalt.
No problems with markings (so far) >> The real world NTGH is asphalt now.
Now I am going to add some aprons and some other minor details ~:) AND hope that the markings
don't mysteriously vanish like they did during the NTKM mod.

Sometimes moving airports can be tricky. If the new location has a different elevation, weird things can happen.

To fix this I used Tools/Change Airport Reference Data and raised the elevation from 6.998 ft to 7 ft. Yes, just a tiny bit. This creates a stub file in the FSX/Scenery/World folder with the new elevation. This file needs to be included in any release. I also changed the elevation of the airport background polygon.

Hope this helps,

Thank you for the very helpful instructions Tom. I followed your instructions (above) exactly,
and the runway markings appeared (screen cap below) . Some of this stuff just seems magical;
but I am taking notes ~:)
Many thanks,
Ken

Hi Tom,
I've already successfully used this technique three times since you shared it a few days ago. Great stuff !!
(and I am gathering the stub files as I go ~:)
Thank you again.

Hello to all, not sure if I arrived at the right place for my question. I am trying to fix SAMR (freeware).
Well, I found the taxiway joined from the apron to the runway is not visible as per AFCAD. I can see the 2 taxiways with ADE but not in the sim. Is there a way to tell something to ADE? Maybe elevation or to do flatten, etc.?
(check all screenshots).

Very interesting technique Tom. Not sure about the software process, but I've noticed that whenever I place an apron adjacent
to a Rwy, it very conveniently slips it's edges underneath the edge of the Rwy yielding a nice clean joining (with no fuss on my part ~:)

I edited SAMR Afcad via ADE following Tom and I think I got it (Screenshot). Thanks Tom! But I think another enthusiast can do it better.
SAMR Afcad is here if needed to edit the taxiways.
