• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Saab 340B MSFS2020, self training

Hello there!

Am working on a project that suddenly came up in me to create an Saab 340B, am not sure what I will do with this project or if it will stall. This is no announcement for a product on the horizon but a privet training program for my self, but I want to let people have a looksy in my progress.

Now I said to myself, create an easy aircraft. E.g Cessna, DA40, DV20 or something in that nature... So I thought Saab 340.. Ah yess easy.. Yeah no.. 😅😂 But I guess what can it hurt, but along my self training I got the idea to create this Saab 340 in extreme details.

My goal for this Saab 340 is
- Extreme body and cockpit details, all small nuts and bolts, it will be a heavy performance hitter when it comes to it.
- Systems, I do coding C++ for work but yet have to figure out how to do this for MSFS, but my goal here is to go extreme, every CB extreme.
- Extensive failure system with even a prop that can fly off when hitting the ground and hits the body or something in that nature.

Now I probably cannot make it all true if any, but am curious how far I can go.

If someone wants to give me tips or tricks regarding
- Modelling
- Custom code
- Texturing
- Flight Dynamics
- General Saab340 tips/tricks/quirks
That would be lovely!

Now it's almost next to nothing yet, but for example making the engine intake + the spinner area those curves are very hard to make, atleast am struggling big time on that. Worked hours on it, and am still not satisfied.

Thanks all inputs!

Been working on her some more. Progress is slow, I should've worked today on my actual work but I drifted away with this Saab project... Man I hope I can make this work and get it into MSFS. It is going to kill peoples PC if I where to release it ever. Thing must have alllll the details like the real Saab.

You are going to be a very unpopular developer (and likely one people will know to avoid) if you are repeatedly saying that your addon will not be optimized and will kill people’s PCs.

I recommend learning model optimization or else you are going to frustrate many if this is released at the detail you are claiming.

It's a test how far can I go, and maybe some people like to try it out. Really annoying comments like yours making me look like some kind of person to avoid. Same can be said about your attitude. It's not going to be a product that will be released for public, and am not a developer just a random dude who likes to model and code stuff....

Well…For your sake I really hope it’s not ever released if a response to my comment hoping that you’ll focus on optimization rather than hyping about performance-killing detail is “annoying”, and I find it hard to believe that there wasn’t an intention of public release at some point.

Another company that released a certain cargo hub airport is learning the optimization lesson this week.

Sincerely good luck with your addon / learning experience / totally not development. This place is a den of failed projects but hopefully (and as hard as it is to believe I mean it) we’ll see some impressive progress on this in the coming months and years.

Well Sean, to be clear. I never had the intention to release it as a payware product, but rather free for people to try out. But it could be very well that the project dies soon like a lot of other projects.

And I agree with you, for public payware release this will be to much, but again am just trying something and let people follow along, if that is outside the scope of the forum than people just need to say to me that it's not allowed to show project with a huge probablity it will never release or release publicly.

Like already the title says on my topic "self training" I made a few small planes on X-Plane for myself, and I never released those either. Due the simple fact that sounds, and textures needs to come from places that are copyrighted, and am not going to get thru all these troubles to get all these copyrights in order to sell it, so privet home use instead as we call it. So that is another reason this project will never see the payware side of daylight or the big community.

Respectfully, I don’t care if it’s payware or freeware. Even if it’s free, if it’s fantastic as you are hoping, I’m concerned that all you will be met with are comments expressing frustration by users who can’t use it because it’s a slideshow. Quality freeware seems to be coming back into vogue, and I would hate to see this get a ton of press due to its quality and then people realize it’s unusable. It would tarnish any goodwill you’d build in the community simply by contributing all of this labor at no cost.

Am not so sure regarding freeware quality planes, I've yet to see a few of those. I do so a lot of realism mods on asobo's their products by the community which is great to see! But for the rest of your comment am a but puzzeld trying to understand what you actually mean. It sounds like you don't really care about my project, which is absolutely fine ofcourse am not here to expect you to like it or not, but what I had in mind was to be selective in which people did like to try it. I mainly builded small little planes in XP10 and 11 back than because I didn't like what was out there where I was looking for, and there I was enjoying my product home brewed and no one knew about it, now I posted somthing publicly and than I get or feel more or less being shotdown by you for even trying this expirment and make it for people to see. Let's just go mid way and you ignore my further "development" "experiment" because I don't want to get into a fight on this forum, I do understand you're not here actually to shoot me down or trying to beat me with my own little world of insanity of trying something like this, but I really don't feel I harm anyone on this forum by posting my thoughts and progress on my home brewed lil Saab.

And now it's time to sleep. I like the smiley thing on a Saab didn't knew it had it.

I think what Sean is trying to say is that after all of the hard work that you have put into producing such a highly detailed aircraft and if it proves to be a drain on the performance of the sim you will most probably get some bad reviews, when modelling an aircraft for a sim there has to be a balance between how much detail is modelled and how it will effect sim performance.
By the way your model is looking very good so far, good luck with future development.

Thank you Paul! And yes you and Sean are right completely am not going to hide that away. But like am trying to say is, this is not going to be payware or being released on big scale but more selective for those who's willing/wanting to try. :) I will not put out a unusable payware product for people, that is just money stealing if I did go that road of really releasing it.

Did some more work, many small details not easly seen on renders. I can't wait to put it in MSFS and doing the texture work.

I just found out that the front windows where WAAAYY oversized way to wide, so had to undergow big surgery, and still is undergoing.

Corrected, I think it's correct now. Everyday you find an imperfection, really annoying. It needs to be spot in. Darn it.

Have you got a 3 view image of the Saab? Such as the one available here, even though they are not totally accuarate they can help.
Hey Paul, I have several vectors of the Saab 340 and a lot of documentation after many researching. But ofcourse any help is appriciated. Am really struggeling with the gear, I want it to be as correct as it can be, but data is very limited.

Slowy the nose gear is coming together, I just can't wait to get working with textures in Substance 3D. So long road to go, meanwhile while I should sleep I read the SDK for animations and basic coding of stuff like the parking brake, brake warning horn etc.. I have 16 full motion simulators level D to my advantages to make sounds, sadly non of them are Saabs closest is the ATR 72.
