• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

SAMM Updated for P3d Compatibility

I have just updated SAMM to be compatible with P3D (v1 and v2).

Those of you who don't use P3D should notice no difference other than a couple extra (disabled) radio buttons on the main panel. For those of you who do use P3D, SAMM handles both v1 and V2 aircraft in the same manner as it does FS9 and FSX.

While I've checked the basic functions, there are always surprises lurking on the sidelines. So, I'd like it to "soak" for a while before releasing it generally.

I hope a few of you will download the latest SAMM Development Release from http:// stuff4fs.com and use it routinely. Please let me know of any difficulties. Also, please let me know if you use it and don't experience any issues.

Don

PS: if you have installed P3d in the default location (i.e., on the C: drive), you'll have to run SAMM as administrator to access its aircraft.

The previous development release allowed you direct access to P3D aircraft folders and was compatible with P3D v1. However, as I subsequently discovered, significant additional changes were required for it to be compatible with P3Dv2.

Development Release 2.1.09(c), available from http://stuff4fs.com is compatible with P3Dv2, other than it will not create static models from aircraft designed specifically for P3Dv2. (It will, eventually, after I've had an opportunity to analyse the changes in the format of the P3Dv2 aircraft .mdl files.) However, it will create static models for P3Dv2 from both FS9 and FSX aircraft.

This development release has also been fully re-integrated with MCX and will generate static models in all 3 formats (FS9, FSX and P3dv2) with the single click of the mouse. But, to do so, all the MCX .dlls included in the archive had to be updated. The new versions are not backwards compatible, so you would be wise to create a new SAMM folder for this development release and copy your current Libraries and Model folders to it.

Please make me aware of any issues, no matter how seemingly minor.

Merry Christmas,
Don

Those of you who installed 2.1.09(c) will find the library function rather cumbersome. Also, there is a problem in the new MCX .dlls that results in textures not being displayed for other than the native version of the aircraft model,e.g., only the FS9 static version of a FS9 aircraft will be rendered with textures.

Development version 2.1.09(d), available at http://stuff4fs.com makes library preparation somewhat easier and addresses the MCX .dll issue.

I have just posted SAMM Development Release 2.1.09(h) at http://stuff4fs.com. It is fully compatible with P3Dv2. Not only does it convert FS9 and FSX aircraft for use with P3Dv2, but it also converts P3dv2 aircraft (mostly thanks to Arno) which can also be used with FS9 and FSX so long as they don't contain too many vertices. Also, texture conversions from .bmp to .dds and vice versa that are necessary when a static aircraft is to be used with a version of FlightSim other than for which it was designed are now done automatically.

Please give it a try and advise me of any issues.

There was a problem with SAMM Development Release 2.1.09(h) whereby an exception was thrown if you attempted to specify a local library. This has been fixed in 2.1.09(j), just uploaded to http://stuff4fs.com.
