• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

Hi all

I know this has been asked a lot but I just can't figure it out...
I got a ground poly and I made 5 sets of textures, spring, summer, fall, heavy winter (only to show when it actually snows) and night. The spring and night textures have been placed within gmax but I just can't figure out how to alter the asm code to add the others..

Hi,

You might want to try the ground polygon wizard that is part of ModelConverterX. It gives you a GUI to make ground polygons and can add the seasonal textures for you.

Be aware that HW when it snows is not possible though, you can only switch the textures based on a date, not on the weather condition.

maybe I won't add wintery textures as it doesn't snow that much at the coast of Belgium, we now just have an exceptional winter :p

just found out that you should actually use FS2004 MDL file with ModelConverterX
When I import an FS2002 BGL file, I get a strange effect when exporting it and importing that new file to check it...
Only 1 texture gets loaded into the GUI and the groundpoly has become rectangular while I deleted some pieces as they have no textures applied...

It should also be possible to load fs2002 bgl files, if you have trouble with them it is most likely a bug.

Not sure what is going on with the textures. If they are in the correct folder the tool should find and display them.

The bgl loads, but no textures are loaded, they have not been moved since I exported the file out of gmax fs2002...

I'll post some shots of what's going on later this evening

Hi,

BGL files don't contain the path to the texture, only the filename. So depending on where you put the BGL and the textures, it might be ModelConverterX can not find them. If the BGL is in your scenery folder and the textures in the texture folder it should work.

Tried it with exporting through the 2004 gamepack and loading the .mdl file, still no textures loaded...

okey, figured out how to be able to load the textures in MDCX

Hi,

Check your texture names. In noticed you used -SP, -WI, etc in your asm code. Modelconverterx will use _SP, _WI, etc. so you might have to rename your textures.

Yes,the name bgl uses the naming convention for the seasons as modelconverterx assumes it is (so with the underscore).

didn't work...
it just tries to load ebos_air_014_FA.bmp and that's the only one... so I just get that segment of the plane instead of all...

Hi,

I see no errors there.

For performance reasons the ground polygon wizard will create different groups of objects. If you use the arrow buttons at the top you can browse through the different object.

Also, the viewer does not show all seasons. It will just load the active season (based on the day number you entered). So that only FA is loaded can be OK.

Did you try if it works in FS now?

aha, now I see why it only shows a part...
sound logical since I asked MDC to make it into separate object :p
will check it out later this evening in FS
