• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Selecting planes and Making planes for AI Use

Hello All -----
Working on a new airport (using ADE) and using AI Flight Planner to do my AI flight planning for the new airport.

Wondering if someone could point me toward a good write-up on AI aircraft and the limitations of existing (non-AI) aircraft for AI usage. I notice that some planes work well, and others crash FSX for no obvious (to me at this point) reason.

Trying to get through this learning curve so I may "tweak" planes (more modern ones) to whatever extent is needed so that FSX will accept them into the AI engine.

Any and all inputs and comments appreciated.

Thanks --- Bob --- :D

Well, user aircraft do not make good AI. Not all default aircraft make good AI. The default Piper comes to mind. Good user aircraft are too detailed to use as AI. While many user planes will work, there is an fps hit the more of them you use.

As Bob says, default and add on UI aircraft do not make good AI aircraft.

A good AI aircraft will have several LODs (levels of detail), which ensure that the aircraft model becomes less and less detailed the further you are from it (and vice versa). This minimises the FPs hit each aircraft creates.

UI aircraft do not have LODs and, consequently, have a heavy FPs hit when in use in numbers. That said, using a small number of UI aircraft at a relatively quiet airport is usually okay, although ti depends heavily on the specifications of the user's PC.

Howdy Guys !!!

And thanks much for the replies. Yes, it appears that the LOD scenario is the major contributor to performance with AI aircraft. For the time being, looks like I will just have to do some experimenting and pick a few "low load" UI aircraft while looking around for some "real" AI aircraft that have been tailored for the job :D

That will probably be my best approach since I don't want to get bogged down with producing AI planes. I have seen a few payware packs of AI aircraft. One of those might be useful as well.

Thanks again for the pointers.

Cheers --- Bob --- ;)

Hi,

Real AI can be found (amongst other places) on
the site of World of AI and on Military AI works.
No need to revert to payware AI.
