• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Simconnect, Vista & OPT

I am one of the masses & that also does not have the tool bar. I have read through all the posts & save one that went unanswered I don't see anyone with the same problem as I.

In a nutshell, I am quite certain that I have everything configured & installed as outlined in the Wiki & other threads yet I still don't have the toolbar.
I also don't get the simconnect window though.

I recently upgraded (if one can call it that) to Vista & it seems that simconnect works decidedly different that on XP. Regrettably I know very little about simconnect.

Can someone explain to me how simconnect is supposed to be installed on Vista?
I am running FSX Deluxe with Acceleration & SP2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated because I have another app that runs on simconnect that I cant get to work either.

You may want to post this in the simconnect-forum as well, as I cannot give you the answer for the simconnect window.
But for the OPT, it's just the same as with XP: I installed it both, first with XP and later with Vista. Simply install the SDK as described in the Manual with the additional help you'll find in the threads here in the forum. I don't see any problems regarding Vista and OPT.

Hi Folks

Amatsukaze -
Could you please clarify, (for the Wiki).

Is the following correct ?

On your PC.

You had XP,
with FSX installed.

You then upgraded this same PC
from XP to Vista.

As Thorsten suggests,
reinstalling the SDK should work.

Please feedback.

TIA

Hi,

I don't think that SimConnect needs any special installation. It is a DLL that is part of FSX and is installed by default. Other applications should then be able to make use of it.

Actually I bought a new PC. The XP one went to my daughter, I decided to give Vista a whirl with this new one.

As stated earlier everything has been installed & cross checked & is fully compliant with the Wiki.

I believe that my problems are associated with simconnect. I believe that because 1) I don't get the simconnect window & 2) Another app that I run (Flyteline for those of you aware of it) requires simconnect to work as well & will not with this computer.

Here is the strange part, if you search my HD you will only find an actual simconnect.dll in a remote part of my HD located at "C:windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft.flightsimulator.simconnect_x86_microsoft.flightsimulator.simconnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.61259.0_none_55f5ecdc14f60568". Nowhere else, from what I have read it should reside in the users folder as well as in FSX itself.

Regrettably I know nothing about simconnect so the deeper I dig the deeper in a hole I find myself

Regrettably I don't know anything about simconnect either. :o

So I really hope some of the programmers might help you with this.

You read wrong. SimConnect.dll should reside only in the WinSxS folder. However, you seem to have only the SP2 version, there should be two others corresponding to the RTM and SP1 installations.

There are several files related to SimConnect, some that just get installed (the .DLL file), some you probably will need to edit (like the DLL.XML file), and some you will need to create by hand (EXE.XML if you need it, SimConnect.INI for the debug window, SimConnect.XML if you want to enable remote SimConnect clients [ie on another computer], SimConnect.CFG on any remote machines that might be running clients).

Here's a quick rundown of where each file goes:

DLL.XML and EXE.XML - these go in %appdata%\Microsoft\FSX

SimConnect.XML - also goes in %appdata%\Microsoft\FSX

SimConnect.INI - goes in %userprofile%\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files

On Vista,

%appdata% = c:\Users\YOURUSERNAMEHERE\AppData\Roaming

%userprofile% = c:\Users\YOURUSERNAMEHERE

if you are in a DOS/Command Line window, you can switch to these with something like:

cd /d %appdata%\Microsoft\FSX

As to what goes in the files, sounds like you have looked at the various docs and online sources, maybe you could post the contents of the above files, and the path you currently have them stored in, here and we can look and see if the contents are correct.

My apologies for not replying sooner, I had thought I had subscribed to this thread & truth be told was disappointed in not getting any replies.
I am happy to learn that was not the case.

I managed to get the problem sorted. What it was I haven't the foggiest?

I ran into some unrelated problems & did a restore (before FSX was installed) & when I put FSX back in it worked.

I shall chalk it up to windows gremlins :D
