*** SODEPlacer V0.6 ***

Salam, Hello All

I want To Ask How I Have To Open Sode Placer Program? Like I Download Sode Placer Floder Then Whisplacer Now Where i Have To Open Or At Files To Open Sode Placer Program Need a Big Help

Thank You :)

Have the same question, and am more than a little surprised that there are no instructions for installing this package. Clearly many have made it work so I'm missing something...? The download contents have nothing in the way of installation steps. How is everyone making this work?

I'm sure you can initially unzip it anywhere you like, and run it from there. My understanding is that it is a Java program, so you will need Java installed first.
I've just checked, and I can see installation instructions here:
https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/sodeplacer-v0-4.442264/

Thanks, that's as far as I get:
  • Unzip to any location you want and double-click the SODEPlacer.jar file
At that point the .jar file just upacks itself to the same folder.... maybe Java isn't playing nice and actually installing as it should?

Just checking, did you actually install Java first? A proper Java installation should register the .jar extension to open within Java.
Sorry, just realised my link to the instructions is this very same thread:)

Updated to v0.5:
  • Support for placement of VDGS boxes if you have purchased the SODE VDGS Pack
  • Added support for manipulating the heading of a selected object using the mousewheel and key modifiers SHIFT, CTRL
  • Fixed several minor bugs

Updated to v0.6:
  • Support for the (optional) TargetSim node for the entire xml project.
A_TargetSim.png

Using the TargetSim node, you can specify that this xml is only used for a specific simulators. A use case would be to have non-PBR SimObjects display in sims prior P3Dv4 and PBR SimObjects in P3Dv4 and v5. So you would create 2 xml file sets with different TargetSim definitions set in SODEPlacer.
Another use case would be to have xml files for each simulator and your scenery installer will only put it in the SODE xml folder for the simulator specified in your installer. This will prevent the shared SimObjects to appear in a simulator in which your scenery is *not* installed.

Hi, guys a bit off topic, I can't run SODE Placer, I've installed java for windows 10 x64, but when i try to run it I'm getting an exception error. Do i need something else to be installed. This is on a newly installed windows 10 setup. I have Microsoft Visual C ++ 2005, 2008 x86 and x64, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015 x86 and x64 installed. Thanks in advance

Well just made it to work. Tip, if you install latest version of Java (on a new system) you won't get it to open. I've downloaded version 8u202 of Java and fortunately worked with this one. Hope it helped someone.

Hi everyone,

I have JAva 8 202 installed however when i click on SODE placer v0.7 nothing happens. any ideas?
I am running windows 10 fully updated.

Cheers

Damian

I have sodeplacer v0.7 running on win 10 with javaversion 1.8.0_321-b07...
But, I use the 32bit version of Java!
So the SODEPlacer runs without problems and error messages.

I've downloaded the SODE Placer and have it installed. I've also downloaded the manual. Now, there are things in this manual that are not being explained in detail that I'm having problems with. In the manual, it starts off by initializing the SODE Library Database:

(Step 0: Initialize SODEPlacer Library Database (initial tool launch)

The “Make library database” wizard should automatically set the correct SODE Module and Add-Ons paths.

Click on “Make Database” to generate a library of all your SODE SimObjects currently installed on your harddisk.)

It says to "Click on "Make Database." It appears that the Make Database is a Java executable but there is NO "Make Data" to click on to. When I double click on the SODEPacer.jar file, it just opens into another zip file. Will someone give me more details that the manual is not explaining?

Hi Ken,

SODEPlacer is installed by unpacking the SODEPlacer_v0.7.zip to a location of your choice.

To start SODEPlacer, open the folder SODEPlacer_v0.7 and double-click the file SODEPlacer.jar.

SODEPlacer should now open.

Now click on Tools at the top and then click on Library manager in the dropdown menu to open it.

In the Library manager, click on Library at the top and then on Rescan Containers in the drop-down menu.
The Make library database window now opens.

Now click on Make database to transfer the 3D objects from ProgramData/12bPilot/SODE/SimObjects to SODEPlacer so that you can place them and then create an SODE xml.

Existing SODE xml files can also be imported and then edited.

Hi Ken,

SODEPlacer is installed by unpacking the SODEPlacer_v0.7.zip to a location of your choice.

To start SODEPlacer, open the folder SODEPlacer_v0.7 and double-click the file SODEPlacer.jar.

SODEPlacer should now open.

Hi Mike,

There is no folder in this zipped file with the name SODEPlacer_v0.7. It's a zipped file and I'm using Winzip. After I extract it, there is another file with the name SODE Placer.jar, but it's association is a WinZip file. I also have the latest version of Java installed and it's the 64 bit version. I can't figure that out. Clicking the SODEPlacer.jar does not open the SODE Placer 0.7 like that shown above. I even changed the file association from WinZip to Java.exe and it doesn't open nor do anything.

Hi Ken,

When I unzip SODEPlacer_v0.7.zip a new folder named SODEPlacer_v0.7 is created.

Right-click on SODEPlacer_v0.7.zip and select Extract all from the drop-down menu.

The content of the folder looks like this:

When I double click on the SODEPlcer.jar file, it opens another winzip file:
SODE Placer.jpg

This file has the wrong association. I clicked on Properties and set the file association to Java.exe. When I double click on the file, it just flashes and nothing happens. I've read where you said that you're using the 32 bit version. I'm using the 64 bit version on Windows 10 Pro. I don't understand why my file opens another WinZip file and yours opens the SODE Placer program.

Ken.

Then you may be missing Java on your PC.
See post #30 .

I have Java installed. At first, I did installed the SODE Placer without the Java. Then found out that I had to have Java installed first. So, I uninstalled the SODE Placer, installed Java, then re-installed SODE Placer. I have version 1.8.0_421 64 bit version. I'm running the 64 bit version of Windows 10 so I thought I should download the 64 bit version of Java. It's placed in the Program Files folder. But it still opens another WinZip file. Also, after installing the SODE Placer, I check the Properties of the file and it says Open with WinZip. I changed that to Java.exe and it just flashes and nothing happens. I've done everything I know of and I'm still having this problem.

Hi Ken,

The user in post #23 probably has/had the same problem.
The prerequisite is that Java is recognized correctly by Windows.

It looks to me like either Java is not installed correctly or it is Java 64bit.

I have Win10 64bit and only Java 32bit installed (no Java 64bit).
And SODEPlacer works for me with a Java 32bit.

What happens if you enter the command

java -version

in a command console?

This is what happens when I enter the command java - version:

Command Prompt.jpg

When you open Properties, what file type does it say? Is it Java or is it .jar?
