• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS24 Strange water levels between 2020 and 2024

I created a water airport at Nainamo (CAC8) for FS2020 a few years ago and had trouble getting the floating docks to 'sit' correctly at first but some 'elbow grease' and I got them to display relatively ok.

I now own FS2024 and find that the same floating docks display very wrong ie. one end of each dock is submerged.

Below are two screen shots of the same docks the first taken from F2020 and the second from FS2024. Note the end of the docks are submerged in FS2024.

I released the package (built in FS2020) to flightsim.to as freeware and if possible I would like to have just one package which works correctly in 2020 and 2024.

Firstly is there a way to correct this (in FS2020) so that the package works relatively correctly in 2020 and 2024?

If not is it possible to correct this in 2024 by creating a 'supplement' package to go with the main package for 2024?

If not I will just convert the package to 2024 and have two packages released on flightsim.to.

Thanks

I note that docks placed by mamu's marinas also get displayed with one end submerged. Obviously an Asobo stuff up but is there a work around?
FSX used to have a polygon which could be set to 'flatten' and the altitude of each vertex could be individually modified. I don't see that excellent 'tool' in 2020 or 2024 or have I missed it?

Thanks Dick. I thought that someone mentioned a while back (another thread or web site) that it is possible to exclude photogrammetry. Firstly, I couldn't find in settings how to disable it and then I thought perhaps using an 'exclude' polygon but couldn't find anything in properties. Anyway would it make any difference?

In the current version of 2024, exclusions won't help. The tin is visually excluded, but the terrain is altered as far as placement of models goes. It's a bug. You could try setting the placement position and angle rather than snapping to the ground.

That is impossible as when in the editor the floating docks are displayed correctly ie before clicking on 'load in editor' the docks are submerged at the ends but when 'load in editor' is clicked they display correctly. They don't have 'snap to ground' selected. I could I guess use the gizmo to angle them but it would be pure guesswork and trial and error.

Hello Dick, FYI here is a screen shot of just one of the docks with a terraforming polygon over the area. You will note that at a given 'altitude' the water level 'inside' the poygon is the same as outside the polygon and all other areas it is either above or below. A nightmare. Although when I changed the falloff to 1000 those problems went away although as the polygon is so close to the shoreline I'm not sure if the polygon would affect the land too.
