• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Takeoff and landing forced to specific runway directions

I'm reworking Calvi LFKC. This has one runway 18/36. The airport is at the coast and in the rear of the island we have high mountains. So planes in real world land on 18 towards the mountains and take off on 36 towards the sea.
Now that seems to be a problem for P3D v5.3 ATC, which assigns me to land on 36, what is hardly possible because of the high mountains and narrow valley. I assigned the runways according to my needs to 18 only land and 36 only take off. The program seems not to care about my pattern settings. I also removed the start from 18, but I fear that's only a point to place the plane, when moving to an airport. It seems not to have any influence on AI or ATC.

Is there some trick to force the sim doing it right?

I had a look at Aerosofts Lukla VNLK because of the similar situation but they did not create a runway in the afcad.

Thanks for any hint
Dan

To be honest, there’s not a lot you can do, but you can try to increase the priority of the correct runway as much as possible. If you give that end an ILS and the other and not that will help. Also, you can remove the start location from the wrong end of the runway, and that will lower its priority. Finally, I believe that in the runway list, the runway you want FS to use should be listed last. I think?

The ILS was already there on 18, the favorite landing runway. I also removed the start position from 18, to avoid takeoffs. Which runway list do you mention? In Airport Design Editor? I have only one, so that's not much of a list. I thought about crossway runways but had no clue, how to make this work in the one runway situation.

What I also did realize, I had a PAPI on runway 36, where I don't want landings. So I removed this and I think it had an influence. But not sure about that, since maybe it was just a favorable wind direction when I tested. I know, I should consider stopping the weather engine to investigate the ATC. Thanks a lot Tom.

I did some quick tests in ADE for MS2020 with R18 set for landing and R36 for take-off. Whatever the wind direction, these settings are taken into account by ATIS and Ground Control. Ground Control says "taxi to 36" and the ATIS says "visual runway 18 in use...landing and departing runway 36"...I don't know what it would be with P3D.
