• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Taxi Direction

I hope this isn't a silly question, but is there any significance to the direction in which Taxi Paths are drawn? Many airports like Chicago O'Hare have concentric rings, A and B, and aircraft on FSX seem to always use the same direction.

I am working on an up to date KORD, and it looks as if the designers have purposely skipped signage which would not be used. i.e. Why would an aircraft turn onto the middle of a runway, so why give us a sign indicating a path, even though one exists for aircraft leaving the runway.

I'm always trying to better understand FSX and it's foibles, and this is one of them.

What are you basing direction on?

Hi Jon,
What I am trying to assess is whether AI aircraft follow the Forward/Reverse settings of the taxi points. With KORD, would I need to draw all the inner A taxiways in a clockwise direction, and all the B Taxiways anti-clockwise. If these rules are followed, then it reduces the number of Taxisigns required. I am positioning signs directly from Google Earth Coordinates, but that doesn't tell me what they say, or if they are double sided. I hope that clarifies what I am asking.

OK - thanks for the clarification. I am sorry that I don't have the answer. Hopefully someone else will

The Forward/Reverse attribute of taxi points are used only by "hold-short" types and are used only for the orientation of the drawn marks.

Taxi path Forward/Reverse attributes are used only to define right/left edges for edge marks/lights.

Neither of these have any effect on the direction of travel of AI aircraft.

Okay thanks, I've redrawn the B taxiway in the opposite direction, and watched AI aircraft happily go against what I hoped was the flow. Taxi line direction therefore have nothing to do with AI aircraft taxi direction. QED.

Something to keep in mind, is that in real life, the outer and inner circle taxiways (Alpha and Bravo) at O'Hare are often used in either direction based on the runway configuration. At least it was the case until the recent shift to all east-west runways.
