• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Bing Aerial Imagery Tile Sources:

http://a0.ortho.tiles.virtualearth.net/tiles/a0302222013313312130.jpeg?g=9
(can be a0 to a3)

(can be t0-t7)

(a secure https)

Some areas have imagery at level 20, but many areas have imagery at lower levels. The above has imagery at level 19 max.

You can make 20 level tile2 from a 19 level tile. In a paint program, enlarge the 19 level tile to 512x512, then split the tile by quarters.
0302222013313312130 is the 19 level quad. To each quarter, add 0, 1, 2, or 3... Northwest quad is 0, northeast quad is 1, southwest quad is 2, southeast quad is 3

so the southeast level quad becomes quadname 03022220133133121303
Save each quarter as the {quadname}.png

(Not sure if the sim requires PNG or if a JPG is fine.)

MSFS SAI CGL requires these to be .png, only the streamed tiles from bing support .jpg

The t[X].ssl.ak.tiles servers are the latest tile server software supporting mtx v2 (tin), d, odvs, and cm tiles so I would use those as the formats continue to evolve and new generations get published. There are 8 available, t0-t7. There is a dedicated frontend server for MSFS that maybe we should use or stay away from :D as well: https://kh.ssl.ak.tiles.virtualearth.net
