• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v3 Terrain not flattening

Hi there,
I have been having some trouble with ADE lately when I have been trying to make a scenery for Ponta Delgada, Azores. The fsx/p3d default is very inaccurate, as there are missing taxiways which I have added. However, huge mounds where the terrain was supposed to be appear between the taxiways (it is on a volcanic island, so it all one big mountain). I have used the terrain flattening tool with ADE there, but with no success. And one more thing, on the edge of the taxiways, at the edge of the airport site, there are cliffs, where the sim is compensating for the flattened terrain, and going straight to the original elevation, is there any way make these cliffs longer and shallower? But could this be because I have FTX Global and Vector? Any ideas?
Thanks a lot
Harry Karmel

welcome to the forum Harry,
First you could try disabling FTX Global and Vector to see what that does for your airport...........

Thanks,
I tried that now, but now I have the reverse problem. All the taxiways and runway, have sunken below the terrain, so they are now in small gulleys. I have had this problem with a Keflavik, and Leipzig/Halle scenery but haven't known what to do!
Thanks
Harry

that is because the airport have an altitude and the terrain have another that is not the same. and ftx global is not full deactivated. because that can't be the default scenery.

don't know how global work really, but some file must be faulty anyway check the aiport altitude and you can créate a flatten (with this altitude) for this airport and see the output and work from there.

All right it's no difficult at all it's a matter to find the change altitude tool and set the new altitude there. and to take into account that these files are stored in Fsx/Scenery/wordl. but sure that what you have to change is the ground .so with a "flatten polygon" would be enough. check here the threads about flatten polygon or some tutorial must be hundreds because it's the basics of scenery creation. sorry but from memory I couldn't tell how it was but a simple operation too.

Edit : according with what you posted before I guess you will need another polygon to exclude any default background terrain. but as said before can remember exactly which one is (could be exclude airport background terrain ??). it's a common problem too where the flatten not work. I hope someone could help better.

This is very similar if not exactly the same, to the problem im dealing with at the moment. Is there any new information on this?

Does your add-on airport have sufficient priority in your Scenery Library. If not, you may be doing all the right things - only to have them undone by another add-on. For example, the installation instructions for ORBX PNW state it should be placed at the top of the Scenery Library. But, if you follow those instructions, you will never be able to "undo" anything ORBX has done. I suspect FTX Global and Vector has similar instructions.

If you want to undo something created by another addon, your "undo" scenery must be at a higher priority than the add-on which you wish to "undo".
