Terrain Sculptor

Don,
I have found that I am unable to see sculpt nodes outside of the flatten. If I make a hole in the flatten then when I select sculpt inside the hole I can see the node "plus" symbol in the hole. However, the sculpt "plus" symbol does not appear outside of the flatten . It is placing the nodes because the program asks me for an elevation but, they don't appear on the map so I don't know where they are. I placed the Blend outline and then tried to place the sculpts between the blend and the flatten but, still got no "Plus" symbol.

Thanks,
Alan

Alan, I trust you are using beta version 0.1.11. If not, please download it and try again.

I've never experienced such an issue, so I suspect it's got something to do with your preferences. So, please e-mail (address in user manual) your .tsd and ts.ini files and any further details you think relevant.

I am using the latest beta and I sent you the files. (I hope):)

Should I move any other problems or questions, etc to the Airfield Lights forum or leave them here?

Got them. I'm involved in a couple other things right no so it may be the weekend before I have a chance to look at them.

I've found the source of your problem, Alan. TS "doesn't know" how to create a sculpt node list from scratch. My testing has always involved imported data which already contained sculpt nodes.

I'll re-release shortly.

Well, my first attempt at terrain sculpting was less than stellar. More like dismal, but I'll keep trying.:banghead:
More than a Couple of questions:
1. Is there a way to lock the aircraft symbol to FS and TS? (I haven't found one)
2. Can all the nodes in a hole be changed at once to the same elevation or must I do them one at a time?
3. Will TS work with an adjusted altitude airport? (as far as I can tell, not so much)
4. When will we be able to use a CVX file imported from ADE? I have to start everything from scratch.
5. On page 10 of the manual it says "When you click Scan Blends) but my program shows 'Profile Blends'.
6. Also on page 10 at the bottom. 'When the trace completes, you will be prompted to save'. I got no such prompt so I had to go find 'save profile' selection.

On a positive note. Has the makings of another great program from Don! :)

Thanks,
Alan

While trying to adjust my blend poly I got an error and program had to close. Here are the details of the error.

1. Is there a way to lock the aircraft symbol to FS and TS? (I haven't found one)
Don't know what you mean. TS tracks the user aircraft. What more are you looking for.

2. Can all the nodes in a hole be changed at once to the same elevation or must I do them one at a time?
Hole nodes assume the elevation of the flatten containing them. The term "hole" doesn't mean a depression in the flatten. What it does is allow you to specify different terrain elevations within the boundaries of the hole. If you change the flatten elevation (one step), the hole(s) should follow.

3. Will TS work with an adjusted altitude airport? (as far as I can tell, not so much)
TS "knows" nothing about airport elevation. It's up to you to specify elevations where necessary - except for the blend, of course.

4. When will we be able to use a CVX file imported from ADE? I have to start everything from scratch.
Jon and I are planning an interface. However, as you can see, Jon has been rather busy handling other matters recently.

In another thread, someone recently noted that a new utility "CVX Extractor " can decompile CVX files. It doesn't help me with much TS, but, perhaps, it can generate something meaningful for sBuilder - which could then be imported into TS as an interim measure.

5. On page 10 of the manual it says "When you click Scan Blends) but my program shows 'Profile Blends'.
I'll change the manual.

6. Also on page 10 at the bottom. 'When the trace completes, you will be prompted to save'. I got no such prompt so I had to go find 'save profile' selection.
I'll check and fix as necessary.

While trying to adjust my blend poly I got an error and program had to close. Here are the details of the error.
Thanks for including all the detail. It will be fixed.

As Don says we are looking at an interface between ADE and TS so that the Terrain data in ADE can be imported into TS and vice versa. It is mostly down to me and I am mostly doing non FS related stuff at the moment - but we will get there.

Alan, I've tried inserting additional nodes into the blend outline, moving and consolidating existing nodes and deleting blend nodes - all without difficulty. What exactly were to trying to do? (Perhaps you could also post the .tsd file, please.)

Don

EDIT:I have discovered and fixed a potential cause of the exception. However, since I can't replicate the issue, I have no way of knowing for sure if it really is the cause of your difficulty.

Hi Don,
What I meant in question 1 is when I use ADE I can "connect and then lock" the aircraft symbol in ADE to the aircraft in FS. When I am in slew mode in FS and moving the aircraft around, the one in ADE follows along so I am at the same place. My aircraft symbol in TS doesn't stay locked to the display so I have to go find it. No big deal just wondering if I was missing something to lock the two together.

Thanks for answering the questions. Answered a lot of my questions.

Thanks Don and Jon for unsurpassed programs that you are able to develop. Takes quite a talent and you both have it.

Back to the drawing (terrain sculpting) board...

So, you want the aircraft to remain at a fixed position on the screen and let the world move around it. I actually implemented that but found the display update to be painfully slow. The context menu has two aircraft relocation functions. A quick spin of the mouse wheel should locate the aircraft if it's still in the vicinity.

What about:

Can you provide any further detail?

Thanks, I thought I must be missing something.

As for the error message and your fix I will try again to adjust the blend nodes later this evening and let you know.

Thanks,
Alan

Hi Don,
OK, I am now able to move the nodes and I don't get any errors. :)
How do I get rid of the default flatten? I can delete it with ADE, but then I can't use the CVX that I made with ADE so it comes back where the TS flatten isn't.
I make a flatten that I want with TS which is smaller than the default flatten.

Could you take a look at my airport and see what I'm talking about? I'll send the tsp and tsd files to stuff4us.

Thanks,
Alan

What do you mean you can't use the ADE CVX file? Are you saying that the default flatten remains active even though you excluded it in ADE? With the correct "Exclude_" guid? That seems most unusual. Be sure that the TS flatten is at a higher priority than your airport or that your TS .bgl is named such that it loads AFTER your ADE CVX file (e.g., preface its file name with "z_") - so that the exclude doesn't "kill" the TS flatten.

Quoting from page 10 of the manual. 'Before making the profile , ensure you have disabled any existing flatten files for your airport'.... So, I assumed that meant remove any CVX flatten files before using TS. Looks like my bad, again. :banghead: DOH!!!

Thanks, I'll try again.

That's exactly what's intended. If you still have an old flatten enabled, how can TS compute the required blend elevation should the blend outline be anywhere near the old flatten,

Of course, when you go to use your new TS flatten, you also need to exclude the old flatten. But that's got nothing to do with TS, You'll have to do that no matter what tool you use to define the new flatten.
