Have you seen the threads in these query results yet ?

EDITED]
I am not certain a new ('active') install of ADE LOM can import / register MDLs and thumbnails from an old ('non-active') ADE install.
IIRC, ADE LOM is mostly based on the prior stand-alone LOM scruffyduck released years ago; more info is in that package (see PDF below).
https://library.avsim.net/search/basic/root/library object manager
You may opt to use that version in FS9 separately from ADE, and import data from it into ADE via LOM2ADE:
https://library.avsim.net/search/basic/root/scruffyduck
It appears you may use LOM2ADE to import from the older stand-alone LOM -to- a new ('active')
ADE install.
But it is not clear whether you can use LOM2ADE to import content / data from an old (not active)
ADE install -to- a new ('active') ADE install:
https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/t...files-to-thumbnail-import.314510/#post-505138
If that is not possible, you may need to re-import your scenery library object BGLs which contain the MDLs you want to use:
* Into the older stand-alone LOM
...or:
* The new ('active')
ADE install's LOM (which is 'somewhat' different from the older stand-alone LOM)
AFAIK, any linked sub-folder ADE / LOM is aware of 'should' be able to provide a thumbnail image for LOM and ADE GUI workspace,
if:
* The 'active' ADE / LOM installation is the one that imported the MDL(s) from BGL(s)
* The filename of thumbnail images match the GUID of MDL file(s) the 'active' ADE / LOM installation imported / registered from BGL(s).
The 'active' ADE / LOM installation creates an internal database, so copied MDL(s) and thumbnails must be "imported" by the 'active' ADE.

When you have MDLs imported / registered by LOM that you placed- but they do not show at run time in
FS- check them in Arno's
MCX.
https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/forums/modelconverterx.87/
If the GUID shown by MCX for apparent duplicate MDLs is different for each, make copies of its thumbnail using each GUID as a filename.
Display issues may also be (1) or more missing textures missing, or MDLs with conditional display variables needing to be set etc....
IIUC, ADE and LOM one can both use a single sub-folder for the MDLs and a
separate single sub-folder for mapped textures.

BTW: You may wish to use thumbnail gallery "Browse" features of XnviewMP (free) to display / inspect folders of FS image files
https://www.xnview.com/en/xnview-mp/
If some FS2004 or older 3D models have legacy DXT texture file formats, and you wish to use them in FS9, try using Martin Wright's tools:
https://www.mwgfx.co.uk/programs/tview.htm
https://www.mwgfx.co.uk/programs/dxtbmp.htm
https://www.mwgfx.co.uk/
...and/or Arno's MCX (IIRC, this was the original thumbnail screenshot utility feature Instant Scenery used to make thumbnails).

I would refer to the ADE version 1.65 PDF manual in addition to doing Google searches on FSDEV forums for more info.
https://www.fsdeveloper.com/downloads/manual_english_165.zip
BTW: Most of the original scruffyduck website downloads are now here at FSDEV:
https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/ade-downloads-page.459372/
However, there are repositories of thumbnails available on AVSIM etc to save you work making thumbnails for (some) non-default MDLs:

BTW: I recommend instead using version
1.79 as the last ADE build; it has desirable new features (but those may not impact LOM itself).
