• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Toolbar Icon SVG format

What application is good for creating/editing SVG files?

I am trying to figure out a SVG format that is required for an in-game UI toolbar icon that invokes a custom UI panel. I have the panel and the toolbar logic going, but the SVG icon is giving me a headache. I am using PhotoShop to import an example SVG icon (which works perfectly in the sim), I make changes to it, and save (export) to SVG. In the sim, it doesn't look anything as it did In photoshop - there is solid color where transparency should be, and the inverse of it (when mouse is over the icon) is.all wrong.

Even if I import a SVG icon that worked in sim and re-export it without any changes, it gets all messed up, which tells me PhotoShop is re-formatting it.

Any idea?

Hey,
i use inkscape for this. SVG is the native file format from inkscape.
I recommend to cleanup the SVG after finish it to remove the meta data stuff.
All my SVGs, i use with MSFS, i built with this tools.

Hey - thanks a lot, that really worked nicely. Although - there were a few "gotchas", as there usually are in these cases

  • The graphical elements need to be black, and
  • (this one had me stumped) the FILL type needs to be set to "?" ("undetermined") in order for this SVG to show up properly in the sim, with its highlighted/un-highlighted states.

It took me a bit to figure that one out. I hope it helps someone!
