• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Trees

Hi,

I want to place some trees in my scenery. It is a lot of work to make a tree in gmax or something, add the rotation to user code, place them in FS etc etc. Maybe there is some kind of library, with trees, which I can use. It would definitly decrease the time to the release of my scenery.

Hi Jorrit,

Gerrish Gray has made a great tree library, you can find it at any big FS site.

The only limitation of this library is that it is made in the pre-Fs2004 SCASM format, so you can not call them with XML code.

As an alternative I have recently started to make a simple tree library using the default tree texture of MS (so the same texture as the autogen). But I have not yet completely finished this library (most objects are done, only testing, documentation, etc needed). So depending on how much time you have you can also wait for that.

Hi Arno,

How do I call those trees from Gerrish Gray? Do I need to learn a new program for that?
And when is your library released? I have some time, but don't want to wait very long as I'm already delayed much due to a new study etc.

Hi Jorrit,

API macros are included for the trees of Gerrish, so you can place them with any tool that allows you to place macros (FSSC, AFW, ObPlacer, etc).

I guess it will not cost me more then an evening to finish my library, so hopefully this weekend I can finish it. This library will not include API macros, it will only use the new XML format.
