• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Unsupported BGL's

I am totally new at this...but when I import the mdl . I get all these error codes. I believe it is a fs9 or fs2004 mdl for a ys11a that I am trying to convert so I can use it with Piedmont in my flight sim :)
I think I exported it one time and it was missing the landing gears. I also send a pic of the values screen... I have no idea what to set for the landing gears so they show up. This is an ai and not used as a flying model not that it would anyway.

Any help appreciated.
I really don't know what I am doing. Seem to me something about wrong bgl..maybe it should be mdl8?

Thanks,
Bob M

Hi, take a look on Options->Importer settings and change to "always true" the variable USE CONDITIONS... close and start again MCX and reload it, Just should work.

Look on the forum shearch option to more info of guys with same problems and how to convert fs9 to other platform. Some learning curve is needed. Have a nice day.

Hi,

What you see in the log are warnings, not errors. They are normal when importing aircraft models from FS2004 or older. So you don't have to worry about them.

To get the gear in the right position you need to alter the user variables so that it is extended. Or set the user conditions to true as suggested above, but that might not work in all cases.

I changed the settings and I still get all these weird colors and no wheels. Is that the image above with the wheels on it. How did you get that..lol....can I have my file back now......just kidding...will hunt around and see if I can get it right.
Thanks,
Bob M.

I read some stuff and figured this was a RIFF MDL8 something or other like that and used a hex editor and converted to FS90?......now all the errors are gone except the one in the picture.. Am I getting closer...lol

Thank you very much for any help. A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. Actually I just stumbled into this..going to read but I think this is what I am referring too. Maybe development in Model Converter X can resolve my issue?
https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/converting-cfs2-models-for-fsx.239368/
I just notice that the number 30 on the top row ..the 3 is blinking blue..mean anything?
I sent you a pic of the original mdl with hex editor. On the right side..top row is that RIFF stuff if that tells you anything?

Just so you know..I do have this YS11 showing up in P3dv4.3 at the KGSO airport but they don't have wheels and the propellers don't turn but it goes down the runway..lol

Hi,

Congratulations. By tweaking with the hex editor you have made the MDL file unsupported. So you went from warnings that are not a problem, to an error that says the MDL file can't be read. I would suggest you just restore the original MDL file. There is no need to use a hex editor to convert a model.

I'll try to check tonight which values of the user variables are needed to get the gears to show. It's probably a mix of the different values you can enter.

And make sure you are using the development release and not the old stable release.

Hey...regarding the Fokker
UPDATE- Have redone Fokker 28-4000 and seems to be ok except exterior lights stay on :)
Thanks for any help. I know converting fs9 airplanes to p3dv4 is a pain in the arse.
Everybody HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!

I see textures in your screenshot, so where do they not load?

I don't know Arno....they're there....should I be or recommended to switch from bmp to dds or something better on the graphics? I am pointing to just P;/Textures which is the main texture file for P3dv? or should I have others set in options.. Anything obvious in aircraft config file? I am new and learning all this stuff... I am almost 68 and the learning curve is slower or shorter.. :)

Bob M.

As Arno says, the textures are already being loaded and displayed - they are not missing. So what's your problem?

I assume they don't show in the sim. For the sim you better convert to DDS. Also put them in the texture folder of the scenery or aircraft.

Hi Tom..got great stuff at CalClassics but NO, the textures aren't displaying in the sim or in Model Converter X.....the picture remains of Japan Airlines and Piedmont is in the pull down livery menu but not showing. Certain settings on the DDS?
Thanks,
BobM.

Hi Bob,

Ah, you want to switch a livery. Selecting the new livery in the combobox should be enough to reload the model and find the right textures from the different texture folder. But be aware that MCX doesn't support the texture.cfg file yet.

Does your texture.piedmont folder contain the same textures as the main texture texture folder of the model?

I wonder if it has to do with the naming of the bmp's. The original bmps are of piedmont from the original ys11a put out years ago. The Japan airlines bmps are named differently... Also the original has a l.bmp and no t.bmp so I am wondering if the originals need to be renamed to match the new ones..like fsp_ys11_ etc. because when I load the piedmont the same two FSP_YS11_t.bmp and l.bmp load.?

look here Arno

The textures in the livery folder need to have the same name as defined in the MDL file, else you can't switch them. So check in the material editor which names are in the MDL file and use these.
