• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 Use actual terminal picture as an object in ADE

Hi,
I am often using ADE to enhance airports but always just use the default or free ware available add-on object libraries.
BUT:
I now would like to use the actual terminal building to show at the airport (got pictures). Which would be the best
and hopefully user friendly sowtware to achieve this. (heard abour Abacus, Gmax???)
Any help appreciated.
Best Regards.
Peter

On the odd occasion I've wanted to produce "photo-realistic" scenery items I've used FSDS for the structures, but of course that's long since dead in the water, so if you do pick up a copy make sure you get a valid serial number for it!
I've got it installed on an old XP machine ... I've not tried running it under W10 or W11.
GMax always seemed to be a little "heavy duty" for what I wanted to achieve ... quite a steep learning curve, as I remember, but of course, it comes free on your FS9 discs ;)
"Older technology" programs like EOD (Easy Object Designer) may prove adequate if your demands aren't too high ... there were some very acceptable scenery buildings produced for the earlier versions of FS using programs like this, but you'll probably be much on your own as there'll be few people left who are still familiar with the older programs.
Good luck :)

Thanks Guenther,
Could you possibly send me the links for correct Blender and Sketchup downloads. Have searched but there seem to be options.
Also in these, can the pictures be used to create objects for ADE library ( bgls and guids-Thimbnailsme included).
Want to enhance KINT airport for freware downloads and there is a new Terminal building.
Got few pictures only.
Many Thanks.

You can use the pictures as textures to map over your 3-D structure that you must create yourself.

Sounds great Tom.
Do not even know if I should start poking into this.
I use ADE a lot, even do some own panel designs, airports, approaches but this is the field I am not too familiar with.
You can see in my Flightsim KPLU airport download - just using the available freeware libraries:
Obviously I would like to see more realism like in the recent Kodiak airport download from Luca:
Cheers

I use Sketchup and dont know much about Blender.
Search for "google sketchup 17 free download"

There are very much youtube videos how to use Sketchup, but it takes time.
regards

Hello:

Here are the last "Official" Google and Trimble installers for free but full-featured Sketchup Desktop versions that were made available via certain 3rd party download websites years ago.

Sketchup Version 8 runs on both Win 32 or 64-bit, but useful for tasks with older Ruby plugins that have not yet been updated to full 2016 or 2017 compatibility.

SketchUp-8.0.4811
https://archive.org/details/SketchUp-8.0.4811

https://archive.org/download/SketchUp-8.0.4811/FW-3-0-16846-EN.exe

IIRC, Sketchup 2016 & 2017 enables Pro features during the first 30 days of use, but continues to run as a free Make version without delay after a Pro 30 day trial ends.

I downloaded and installed these versions on my other Win-10 64-bit Pro computer (these links are from download buttons on the above cited filehorse web pages):

SketchUp-Make-16.1.1449-(64-bit)
https://dl2.filehorse.com/win/photo...qftpA&e=1724612065&fn=SketchUpMake-en-x64.exe

SketchUp-Make-17.2.2555-(64-bit)
https://dl2.filehorse.com/win/photo...A7CWA&e=1724611949&fn=SketchUpMake-en-x64.exe

I recommend that you also download and install Google Earth Desktop Edition (online 'web' version and Google Maps will not work for this IMHO):

https://www.google.com/earth/about/versions/

https://dl.google.com/tag/s/appguid={65E60E95-0DE9-43FF-9F3F-4F7D2DFF04B5}&iid={65E60E95-0DE9-43FF-9F3F-4F7D2DFF04B5}&lang=en&browser=4&usagestats=1&appname=Google%20Earth%20Pro&needsadmin=True&brand=GGGE/earth/client/GoogleEarthProSetup.exe

After installed, you can take screenshots from Street View and paste them into Windows Paint to be saved as JPG or PNG images.

Then you can import them (and/or your own pics) into Sketchup as textures and map them as Materials onto Faces to be traced over for accurate positioning of the terminal structures during 3D modeling.

Export as either DAE, OBJ, or KMZ to be imported by Arnos ModelConverterX (aka "MCX") which can convert textures, then export a FS2004 MDL.

I hope this helps get you started.; feel free to ask for help if you see a need for any. :)
