• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Arno, I'm getting my website setup and am a real novice at interactive web pages. I would love to have a support forum with user registration like you're using here. Any recommendations as to code?

Been looking at the options for taking payments and unlocking downloads and they're pretty cryptic. I have access to Visual Studio .net but there seems to be a stiff learning curve.

I am certainly not an expert in coding my own website/forum :). But luckily there are quite a few packages available that you can use.

This website is running the vBulletin forum. I think it has the most features of the forums I have seen around and I like it very much. But the downsite is that it is not free to use, you will have to buy it.

Another often used forum package is phpBB, this one is free to use and also has quite a lot of features. We also use that with the scenery team I am a member of.

I guess if you google around you will find a lot other forums you could use (or just check some forums you visit yourself and see what they use).

I assume you want to have the key in the installer itself? As I have only released freeware myself I wouldn't know how to make this really failsafe. Have you tried to contact other devellopers and ask how they did it?

Arno thanks. Looked at a number of forum links today including phpbb. As for the installer, adding a key to it really only keeps the honest people honest. Let's face it. With FS scenery, once someone has it on their machine, there's nothing stopping them from copying it to someone else.

My major hope is simply to prevent download from the site or shipping a CD to the customer without payment and hope for the good in people as far as the pirating. Believe me, if I was trying to make a lot of money, pretty sure scenery design wouldn't be way.

Hi Art,

OK, I understand the copying part now. It indeed makes sense. But I assume there must be software that does that? For example some "online shop" software or so, where you can only download the files once you have paid for it? I must say I never explored those, as I have not needed them.

Arno, all this discovery of new techniques and skills is one of my motivations behind this project. I'm a programmer by trade but the bulk of my experience has been corporate applications with no link to the internet. My only past playing with creating websites was making a page for the rock band I was in and it did little more than post gig info and show pictures. Very simple HTML.

I've learned more in the past week about website design than I have in the past 5 years. Well worth the effort.
