• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi all,

This is a very off topic question, but because people from a lot of countries visit this site I still want to give it a try. Can anyone read the text on this stamp or does anyone has an idea which country this stamp is from? I am a bit stuck with this one.

Looks like Hebrew. But no guarantie!

If nobody knows somethin in this forum, you can try it at the Austrian-Virtual Forum! There are even people who can write in Greek (with normal keyboard) Maybe they can help you.

It's definitely of Arabic origin. Serbia has been over 500 hundred years under Turks and Muslims in far past, so there are many monuments with text like these. And that's how I know it's Arabic. Don't know, though from which country it is, but my best guess is some of the middle-east countries: Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan etc. If You want to try deciphering text, You could find some Arabian forums and ask someone to translate it for you... But 90% chance is that is something religion-oriented, because Arabs in general are VERY religious people. This has just came to me, try to find someone in Air Arabia VA forums or similar...(http://airarabiava.com/main.html)

Yes, it is arabic. I know hebrew (the old one) so I have a little experience with the languages of th middle-east. But Arabic is very, very difficult. I cannot say where it is from. The Arabs absolutely are religious people, but there's not too much on this stamp all in all. The bird may be a religious symbol, could also be a political symbol (reminds me of the "Bundesadler" in Germany ;)). I'd say on the right is the value and on the left the origin - but that's only an assumption.

Some more hints...

Hi Arno.
I think it's arabic 90%, but I suggest also (if your attempts with arabian forums are vain) that it could be amharic (ethiopian language) or tigray (eritrean language), since they look very similar to arabic. Let us know...
Ciao. Mauro

Did you notice that there is some text on banner that is below bird? In every religion of known world it symbolizes power, freedom etc... Arno, try to find better shot of same stamp, and I'll try with colleagues here at linguistics college, if I find someone knowing Arabic's. I know tons of them learning Japanese, for heavens sake, why didn't you get us some Japanese stamp, it would be translated till now :) :) :) :) Just kidding...

Yes, I noticed the text. I agree that this could be a religious proclamation (like the US "In god we trust") - actually in the middle-east there is no real difference between religious and politic proclamations.

Thanks for all the feedback. My first guess was also something arabic, but when I tried to look in the catalog I could not really find it (I tried most arabic countries I could think of). The problem is that I don't know the value written on it or if it is some sort of special stamp.

I will try to make a better scan the next time I am at my parents house (that is where my collection is still stored).

For now the idea to try some arabic forum is a good one. I will try to see if I can find some good ones.

Hi!

According to a friend at work the main text of this stamp is "Syria Republic", hence it should be a Syrian stamp. The other text is values, i.e. the cost of the stamp.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Hans, that is helpfull :). I will search Syria again in the catalog.
