• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

When compiling a vector poly you get a file named cvx_XXXX.bgl. What is the significance of cvx? What does it refer to? Acronym?

thx,

Hello:

"Compressed Vector" files as described in the FSX Terrain SDK, which are output using the new FSX Terrain SDK SHP2VEC compiler, and can be viewed in the FSX Terrain SDK TMFViewer. ;)

The initial CVX prefix SHP2VEC inserts in the file name is helpful for both developers and end users to distinguish that BGL type from other types made using the other FSX SDK compilers, but technically is not required when naming for final public distribution.

cvx is the name that Micrsoft give to files containing terrain data. I could surmise the X comes from FSX, and the V might be vector - you can apply your own thoughts to C ;)

Gary cross posted so we have Compressed Vector X I think :)

Indeed, I suppose the "X" might be to designate that BGL type is compatible only with FSX, since tests show it does not work in FS9. :)

I would speculate that "X" as a platform designation is more likely... rather than to indicate an intermediate XML 'output data type instruction template' was required when assembling the IIRC "4" (*.SHP, *.DBF, *.SHX, and *.XML) file component types required to be used by the SHP2VEC compiler. :p

Just read this reply by sfrenchie ...gawd was that funny. :rotfl:

As I am both of French and Scottish descent, I must insist that 'Crap' be pronounced with a "Brogue" accent.

Help... Help... I'm being 'compressed'. :)
