• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Where to get accurate blueprints?

Hello everyone,

I tried to model various aircraft in blender with blueprints from the-blueprints.com. But i never got far in the process because the three sides of the blueprint have never matched the others.
I guess they are just not that accurate. I also heard that even some of the paid vector drawing are inaccurate(?).
I also searched a lot in aircraft manufacturer websites for blueprints but never found any.

Now do you know any good source to get blueprints? How do companies make their 3d model (how do they get the blueprints)?

Thanks in advance

avialogs is a good source of aircraft documentation. You need to look for stuff like service or repair manuals. Even then I wouldn't trust 3D drawings. Stuff that lays out, in numbers, the positions of things such as ribs, spars etc. It helps if you have a crap ton of pictures of the aircraft.

I was able to buy copies of the blueprints for the Tiger Moth on ebay. I believe they originally came from the Smithsonian Institute. https://airandspace.si.edu/collecti...engineering-drawings-microfilm-ca-1910s-1940s

I got engineering diagrams for the CAC Winjeel from the Australian War Memorial.

I got T28 diagrams and service manuals from a site for North American Aviation which I can't find at the moment.

Yep, accurate drawings are not easy to find and often not for free. You should ask around scale modelling forums for the aircraft you’re interested in and if you can visit an actual example where they’ll let you measure details and take hundreds of photos, so much the better. Although if it’s an F-22, .....
