• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Which Version of Sketchup.

I am getting ready to start a new regional airport using Sketchup. This will be Payware.

There are three options to purchase........1. Sketchup Shop $119 annual 2. Sketchup Pro $299 annual. 3 Classic licence for $699.

Are there any good tutorials on creating textures. With Sketchup can you create a template of the side of a building and then build textures from that. With any of the paid versions do you get something similar to Ambient Occulance.

What are developers using to import objects in to P3d.

I will have more questions late. Thanks for answering these.

Hi Randy:

First, I'd recommend that you review your posting history here at FSDeveloper for info on these same questions.

Second, I'd recommend NOT using a payware version of Sketchup as it may offer no more features than- and AFAIK, probably less features than- the freeware version ...which are made possible by using various free plugin Ruby scripts.

[EDITED]

Google Sketchup 32-Bit version 8 (free) requires no license fees, and may be downloaded direct from Trimble at:

http://dl.trimble.com/sketchup/gsu8/FW-3-0-16846-EN.exe

[END_EDIT]

AFAIK, only 3DSMAX or Blender can natively render Ambient Occlusion and 'automatically' map it onto 3D models.

All other 3D modeling applications that render Ambient Occlusion, whether natively or via plugins (including Sketchup), would write out an image onto disk that must be manually mapped onto a 3D model after created, replacing existing texture Materials.

AFAIK, no payware / freeware version of Sketchup can natively render Ambient Occlusion to an external file and automatically map it onto 3D models by replacing existing texture materials.

And, AFAIK, no version of Sketchup can "bake" Ambient Occlusion into Materials already mapped onto 3D models .

Ambient Occlusion data that is written out as a separate 'layer' may also be "baked" or 'merged' into a set of texture images, and would thus require manually replacing existing texture Materials already mapped onto a 3D model.

FYI: 3DSMAX is very expensive payware, Blender is free, and both have quite substantial learning curves.
