• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Whitsunday Islands, QLD, Australia

Hi all,

Just wanted to post a thread about my WIP version of the Whitsunday Islands (excluding Hamilton Island which has already been done by Anthony aka 'Ant') a beautiful region of Australia that acts as the hub to the Great Barrier Reef. I've been working on this scenery for about 3 weeks now, it is my first foray into FSX addons.

So far I have covered:

Hayman Island
Hook Island
Whitsunday Island
Daydream Island
North/South Molle Island
Henning Island
Long Island + Pine

To do:

Border Island + Dumbell + Deloraine
Haselwood Island + Lupton + Teague

I will be making the resorts and major landmarks in Gmax, and annotating autogen/buildings. Hopefully one day I'll also have GA aircraft crusing around and some yachts/cruisers doing their routes.

Nice work Rainey.

There is a slight magenta tinge on some of the ground textures (and photoreal water) that would be nice to lessen in Photoshop.

Are you going to do some autogen annotation too? That would really complete things.

Thanks fellas! The magenta tinge comes from my enbseries profile. It's not there if I disable the mod but it makes the hazy horizons look nice and boosts the contrast. :)

Working on the vegetation at the moment. Can anyone tell me if hand placed trees using IS3 have the same or worse performance impact than the same area with (roughly the same density) autogen?

Worse, you definitely want autogen for a project of this size.
Nice work, looking forward to the release!!

Been working on some autogen, figuring out what looks best:

And I completed another small island, Henning Island, which is right below the final approach for Hamilton Island airport.

Another day, another island. :D This time I've completed Long Island, which was a pretty big chunk of land. Have to fine tune the positioning but the result is spectacular. I've started introducing a little variety into the colours from the reef as well (rather than simply giving them a teal hue). Here's an overview of the scenery so far, including all the islands I've completed with Long Island in the foreground. Enjoy!

Also working on some seasonal variations now. Just summer and winter. finding a happy medium with blending between Ants Hamilton Island (which does not have seasonal variety) and the ORBX FTX AU colours.

Hey guys, thanks for the encouragement and support. I am still progressing with this scenery and my plans for it have expanded. Will hopefully have some new stuff to show off soon! :)

Wow, amazing work! Are you planning to add trees and buildings? Or is it just going to be ground scenery?
