• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Why Do My Models Look Like This?

I am using Sketchup for my models.

Why do they look like this in FSX?

My texture files are all in the DDS format.

I am using Model Converter and Library Converter SML.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Wayne

Usually is due to a missing texture. Make sure any night textures are present as well.

Also, if you use the default material in Sketchup, then import it to FSX, the material will not show up.

I have been going around in circles over this. I did not know that the materials in sketchup could not be used.

How do I get the textures that I need?

Thanks,
Wayne

In sketchup, you can press the bucket tool, and choose a texture from the drop-down menu in the window that opens.

EDIT: Or to make a custom texture, select the plane that you want to make it on, right click, select "Make Unique texture"

attachment.php

Then select it again and right click and go to textureedit texture image. Then you can paste your custom texture by opening it with "Paint."

another possibility is --------> did you make your textures ask for night version? i.e. _LM. If you did and did not make an _LM version of the same textures... what happens is FSX sees that oyou asked for it to look for the LM. It can't find it, and FSX gives up and doesn't display that texture... and it disappears rather than giving you a default black color. Bob

Hi,

To add to what Bob was saying, it also happens when you have two instances of the library object present with different textures on it but with the same GUID. Where the textures differ, that is where they will not show.

After many weeks I found that converting the textures to DXTBMP works. Also in the FSX Scenery Library the Addon Scenery must be at the top of the list.

Now everything is working as it should.

Clarify - also in the fsx library.... etc.

Converting to dxtbmp should be sufficient. Bob

As Bob said, converting your textures to a format FSX can read, should be enough as long as you put those textures in the same texture folder as where you put your scenery folder with the bgl of the object in.
The addon scenery folder does not have to be at the top of your scenery library list.

Roger that. I think long time ago wit hFS9 it was suggested to keep addon scenery\scenery at the top for some reason but this might not have been true even then.

BTW- Rob- I meant to ask- Is there a way to flatten water in FSX so it does not creep up the shore sides? I've been doing other polygon tricks to keep that from happening with fair success. I was just wondering if there is another neat trick I don't know about. :) Bob

All I can say is that the models did not show properly unless I moved Addon Scenery to the top of the list. Just throwing that out in the event another person has a problem with the models. Move Addon Scenery to the top of the list and see if that corrects the problem of models not showing.

I must say that is very interesting. I haven't had that problem. Will keep an eye out for this.
