• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Will there be a P3D V5?

The P3D main customer is military and it’s purpose is to provide simulated military training where that can be realistically achieved. As a byproduct it picked up a group of military minded flight simulator pilots and released a 64bit improvement on what FSX could do. I’m in that group and fly with two virtual air forces. Our flying enjoyment depends on high frame rates when flying with a large number of flying sim objects, pretty scenery hardly gets noticed and all clouds are a nuisance.
From what I have seen so far, FS2020 is far removed from what I want from flight simulation and as such I have no interest in it at all.

Anyone know if there's going to be a P3D V5?

Or will they even bother with FS2020 coming out?
You recently released a major update, but is there anything you are working on now or coming up?

The new release coming out is going to feature a new aircraft and virtual reality improvements. It's going to feature hundreds of bug fixes. But after that, we're going to continue to work on point-releases (such as version 4.2, 4.3) for a little while, and then, of course, we'll start working on the next major version.

Who are the customers for Prepar3D?

Our customer base is very diverse. It's pretty much anybody that's into simulation and training. We have everybody from new pilots to advanced pilots to people that are interested in learning how to fly aircraft, are interested in general aviation. It does include lots of United States government customers. It includes home users. It really includes pretty much anybody that has an interest in flight simulation and training.

P3D will not go away. It may for us, but LM has a customer base that relies on it, and future developments.

P3D, as is FSX, is dead in the water. Frankly, they are arguably the same cartoon'ish platform with one out-doing the other in one way or another. Both were ported outside of MS for development. FS9 was MS's last great product and I believe they are now ready to regain there dominance. I cannot blame them. The only platform that as ever challenged FS9, in terms of fluidity, realism, is XP-11. I honestly feel XP drove MS to get back into the market to regain their reign in the gaming world of simulation. Sorry for those who made little things for FSX and PD3, but those are the facts. In the coming days I believe everyone will realize this. All the best.
Wow Mitch, troll much? That's quite a difference in perspective! Some big life changes, or something, since Aug 17th?
I'd like to here what Aviasim has to say about this. She has to be excited. I am. Perhaps when the WGS84 stuff gets figured out we will get a valuable response. This is awesome to see Microsoft addressing their mistakes post FS2004.
I can't really put my finger on it, but if I had to hazard a guess, I'd say you kind of looked like you were stuck in FS2004, imo the Minecraft of the FS world, except, it's not supported.
In order to clear up some of the glaring misrepresentations, I will provide my understanding of what "porting" is. In software engineering, porting is the process of adapting software for the purpose of achieving some form of execution in a computing environment that is different from the one that a given program (meant for such execution) was originally designed for (different CPU, operating system, or third party library).
Ok, "MS" does not have a unique computing environment, nor is it a proprietary operating system, anyone can use it. What you probably intended to write, is that companies, other than Microsoft, provided development for both software packages and whether or not that is true, the question arises, "so what?" You'd probably felt like your reputation of informed and cleverly implied sarcasm would draw the inevitable negative conclusion, but, you're going to have to spell out how this is a bad thing. It is gracious to inform facts about FSX and P3D little things makers, your apology is heartfelt. Anyway, the likelihood that any sort of FS9 manifestation will arise from this, is zero. Sorry if you made little things for it, but those are the facts that is my very well founded opinion.

Wrong website and wrong forum. This is a developers forum. Suggest you take these really annoying ... is better than ... sim threads to the well known other websites/forums if you really feel the need to do so.

P3D nor XP are not dead, and FS2020 is creating too much expectations that will be hard to satisfy initially. Most of us will continue to have XP and P3D along with this new FS2020, because we are simply just too addicted to this hobby.

The only platform that as ever challenged FS9, in terms of fluidity, realism, is XP-11.

After having it checked out for a year, XP11 is gathering dust. The only thing it has going is for itself is active development, looks and a native Linux release, but the AI, ATC and weather systems are a far cry of what even FS9 had to offer. Can't really blame the devs as XP has always been mostly flight modeling, but I got tired of having to tack so much external stuff onto it to get an experience somewhat comparable to FS9/FSX.

Now please understand that my opinion is centered around multi-display setups rather than the typical gamer. I'm specifically referencing cockpit builders versus the normal "one" monitor pilot who has to take out a second mortgage to get FSX/P3D to work "to some extent".
This is IMO even worse than your first post and definitely insulting. I don't know how many hours of RW flying you have and in which type of aircraft, but assuming that 'one monitor pilots' are gamers leaves me pretty speechless and it couldn't be further from the truth!

Multiple major addon devs (I work for one) including those who are in the commercial and military training market (again I work for one) disagree with you on the P3D part. Unfortunately your opinion doesn't match reality. It is better to remain silent and be thought ignorant than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Please keep this civil - it seems to be going off topic related to whether there will be a P3D v5.
