Today windows did what I would consider a somewhat minor update KB5009543(cumulative update) and KB5008876 (.NET framework).
Which seemed to have wiped out the LocalCache of MSFS.
I figured this out because I was trying to write an installer and the installer reads the UserOpt.cfg file for the Community folder location and the installer wasn't finding anything. Spent about 15 minutes putting in logs to the installer to check that I hadn't done anything wrong before I finally decided to check on UserOpt.cfg and sure enough, everything in the LocalCache folder was gone.
So I started MSFS, it wanted to do some update changes and download 110GB in files to the default location but I pointed it to the correct location and it is working again.
Really weird though that I had to go through those steps.
I figure it must be the windows update that wiped the LocalCache folder because I hadn't run MSFS since the update and doing the work on the installer. What else could it be?
I guess the lesson here is if there is anything you want to keep from the LocalCache folder (it seems cloud sync stores these files anyway as they were restored when I ran MSFS) then you should back it up now in case Windows deletes it all.
