• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Blender Wrapping stencils

Hopefully a simple question:

When I use an image as a brush in substance painter, I can wrap it around a tubular fuselage. But £19 per month just to wrap one picture or flag onto a fuselage?

So... can I do this in Blender?

My efforts so far are a part success - mirroring works, backface cull works, loads of small stencils work (logos etc.). But if I try to wrap (for example) an image like a flag round the whole fuselage, the brush "fades out" to the top/bottom mid points of the fuselage.

But of course... having played around with the various settings in Blender I may have turned something off. Three images below show what I mean...

[edit] I left backface cull off in the example below, but it does work.

I like that. I need to learn texture wrapping, shrink wrapping (may work in your case) and texture painting

In a similar vein, is it easily possible in Blender to load a texture from msfs and see the results appear on the 3D model inside Blender. I think I should be looking at shrinkwrap too, but at the moment the concept seems a bit too abstract for me. Mind you, so did painting directly on the 3D a couple of weeks ago...

I am not overly impressed with "painting" directly onto a 3D model though - there are difficulties with sizes, thicknesses and stencil alignments, especially where you need to turn mirroring off for "directional" stencils. I still have to learn decent positioning of items. No worries, it's getting there.

My stencil stays stuck in the lower left corner. Hold the rmb down all day an no el movo! Today first day of texture painting, it’s actually pretty good tool

Hello,

If you find Subtance Painter too much, you should use ArmorPaint which is very nice (18€ as donation ware) and it should give you all the features that you need.
You can also find a export preset for this software in the "Resources section".
In order to learn ArmorPaint, I use a useful youtube channel: Alexander Kiryanov
