• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v2 Added autogen/library objects that casue flickering...

I've noticed as I mess around with P3Dv3's autogen/Library objects that some are "flickering" when at high altitude looking down. Library warehouse roofs seem to be the main culprit. Other items I have installed to not reveal this issue so I believe my process is intact just individual models. Is this the "z" fighting issue I have read about in the past?

I guess I am posting to confirm some models have this issue and it is not just me. If so, any suggestions on ways to eliminating the flickr. ModelCoverterX maybe? Short of creating my own custom buildings.

Thx to any and all for input.

Hi,

I haven't read about this before, but it would be interesting to see if the affected models have polygons close together that could flicker from further away.

Good idea to add the P3D v3 tag.

Yea. I also did take a look at default scenery as well and noticed a few, not many, of their buildings (again warehouses), had the same issue. So is that textures fighting each other to be on top?

Have you figured out which roof objects have this problem? Would be interesting to inspect those mdl files.

Sure do. Here are three that are very noticeable starting at around 6-7,000 ft in altitude. I listed both the FS2004 and FSX GUIDs:

1. agn_WareHseMaint_3 - b5572de44ebee1c43d6959ba414022bd - b5572de4-e1c4-4ebe-ba59-693dbd224041
2. agn_WareHseMaint_4 - a59dca424ecfa256d663319c451b23bb - a59dca42-a256-4ecf-9c31-63d6bb231b45

Thanks, I'll have a look at them.

Hi,

I had a look at the model and I think it's sloppy modelling. If you look at the roof it has a certain thickness, but there are two polygons facing up with only a few decimetres in between. From a big distance polygons so close and in the same direction can indeed flicker.

But the object also has levels of details, which don't have this issue. But I see drawcall batching is enabled, so the levels of detail are not shown.

It's always tricky to modify default objects, but I guess it would be best to optimize the model. Disabling the drawcall batching probably costs more performance.

Nope, there's no such button. Wouldn't even know how to code such behaviour to check if polygons are visible from nowhere.
