• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

A new ad pops up every time I click on anything. When did this start? It may be another sign of the times, but I must say I'm not a fan.

Cheers,

Scott

Do you mean from www.fsdeveloper.com? If so then it is not likely to come from us - we don't have pop-ups.

Maybe something else in your browser is causing it - what are they saying?

Hi Jon,
I was just about to update this post as I just noticed the problem was also on avsim, so it must be something in my browser. Apparently some adware must have infected my browser somehow, and today is the first time I have noticed it on FSDeveloper. I just did a Windows update a couple of nights ago which included many security updates; so not good. Anyway it seems it has nothing to do with FS Developer so sorry for jumping the gun.

Cheers,

Scott

No worries - I hope you get it sorted out soon

Second that. I have used MalwareBytes on my desktop for the last couple of years

Something similar happened to me years ago. The only problem I have got with virus and such. It begun to worry me when the advertisement almost collapse the internet browser, and yes malwarebytes is a good choice.

Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago where certain words on the forums became ad links with popups when you hovered over them. I did some research and found the the name of the malware and the fix, can't remember what it was now. It did come attached to a download.

Thanks for the info guys. After some research it seems it was an adware (virus?) called DNS Unlocker, which seems to have appeared only late this year, according to reports on the internet. No idea how it found it's way on to my PC. It seems to have only affected Chrome, so I have uninstalled it, and flushed my system out, and there seems to be no sign of the adware anymore. I only upgraded to the latest version a few weeks ago. I will eventually try reinstalling Chrome to make sure I am totally rid of it.

It was as Paul described above, where certain random words on the forum were highlighted and appeared as links. More than that though, every time I clicked anywhere on the screen, including the scroll bar, a new tab would open up with some ad. All of the pictures on the forums also had ads plastered on top of them. Strange thing was, it didn't seem to affect all forums, just a few that I visited.

Another very good malware scanner is ADWcleaner. But I 2nd Malwarebytes....saved my butt a few times!

Had this too, long time ago. It somehow installed when I started up my browser during a PC session for the first time. The browser shut down almost immediately and after restarting it, the ads came up. I discovered installations in the software list that I didn't install myself, I removed them. Very annoying, things happening that you don't know of.
