• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Converting CFS2 models for FSX

Hi all,

Heres a problem I hope someone has an answer to.

Is there a way of converting a CFS2 model for use in FSX?

ModelconverterX doesn't read CFS2 models. The Event log states, "The file xxx.mdl is of a non-supported MDL format."

Is there a way to make it readable?

There is no way of upgrading an old MDL unless you have the source files for it, especially if it has animations. (I don't believe MCX upgrades animations) On top of that, I believe MCX can only read the MDL9 and MDLX format. (FS9 and FSX MDLs)

ModelConverterX will read most scenery BGLs, and can make x files of them for recompilation as FSX, or can compile them directly to FSX MDLs.

Aircraft are a problem.

Hi,

Which modelconverterx version are you using? Version 1.3 or later should be able to read the mdl.

Animation conversion is still limited, but I am working on that.

Send from my phone using Tapatalk, so excuse the short sentences and possible typos

You can do it diifferently

Good hex editor

Check wether it is a MDL8 ( MDL2 or 610) will not work

Search for CFS2-->replace with FS90-->UP on FS90 you find RIFF-->Cut everything in front of RIFF (20480 bytes) and save

That is then a model FSX can read
