• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Freeway Traffic does not show

I have been doing this for a while now, but never encountered this problem before. Maybe one of you guys know more than I do!

I have been compiling road and vehicle traffic using Google Earth V5.1 and FSX KML for a few years now. It always worked, but now I am building my own island in the Indian Ocean and suddenly the freeway traffic does not work.

I did that landclass thing to solidify the ground so that my aircraft does not down itself on dry land. :D I have drawn all the roads, with bridges, buildings everything. Airports are all there, elevations correct, coastlines. No issues.

The traffic files compiles without errors and I have copied the BGL files into the scenery directory. The roads are there, but there is no freeway traffic on them.

At first I though that there was some sort of compile error that I have missed, so I went though FSX KML's settings, making sure it is all there and that the SDK is referenced properly. No joy.

I then tried doing the freeway traffic with Instant Scenery 3. As before, the traffic compiles, but it does not show!

All I can think of is that it must be the coordinates the island is at. Maybe FS has bands defined where traffic may exist or something and the island is outside this area???

I can compile freeway traffic for any other area, just not this area! :banghead: Anyone got any ideas?

Hi,

The density of the traffic is determined by the population density file in FS. So maybe your area is shown as no population at all and thus no traffic? Just a guess though.

Population Density
The population density of an area helps provide some guidelines as to the amount of traffic that is on the highways, recreational boat traffic on lakes, train frequency, and so on. Population density is held in values from 0 (no people) to 100 (very high density city). Note that black, used to identify the zero population case, occurs in several land locations in the map below.

Is your scenery in the black area?

Thank you guys for clearing this up for me. I figured something like this, but I did not know where to look.

My island is in the black! Below Madagascar at some 34 deg South. Is there a way I can fix it?

I see that you are viewing the population density file. Maybe decompiling the file and see what it contains?

Regards,
Nico

You should be able to make a new population density file with resample, I guess you can even make a small file just for your area. But I'm not 100% sure, since I never tried this :) You can view the files with the tmfviewer tool.

IT WORKS!!! HEEE HAAA!!! :D:D:D:D

Ok, this is what I did, thanks to all those of you who helped!

Download and read the tutorial by Scott967 here: http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=145811 This is what did it for me. The tutorial is for SBuilderX, but once you figure out what it is that Scott is doing, you can very easily adjust it for any other program.

Call me old school, but I like using FSX KML! I created a Landclass file for my island using FSX KML and FW TOOLS. It produced an INF and a TIF file after it finished compiling.

I just renamed the files to include the words "PopulationDensity" to distinguish between the files. I also updated the BAT file to point to the renamed files.

I then edited the INF file and changed the Layer = Landclass to Layer = PopulationDensity and re-compiled the file and voila! I now have traffic on my island!!

Thanks again guys!

Glad to hear you got it working :)
