• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX GMax GamePack

I saw in one of the other posts that to transfer Gmax models to fsx, you need to put the gamepack in the gmax gamepack folder. The problem is that I can't seem to find this gamepack. I searched everywhere in the FSX SDK, but I still couldn't find it. I though it was supposed to be in the environment modeling SDK folder.
I also saw that you had to plugin the 3DSM7 folder, but how do you do that?

For GMax, use this folder and its contents:

..\SDK\Environment Kit\Modeling SDK\FSX_GmaxGamePack

For Max7/8, use this folder and its contents:

..\SDK\Environment Kit\Modeling SDK\3DSM7

Did you check the wiki?

In fact, that's where I found out about the Gamepack, but I don't have the game pack in the folder. I tried everything, even re-installing it.

The "game pack" isn't IN the folder, it IS the folder!

Your joking:D....So basically, I have to copy the whole modeling folder from the Environmnet Folder in the SDK and paste it in the gMax gamepack folder? The instructions say that there should be a shortcut to gmax in the folder, but where is it? These are the steps I followed.

1.) Have a look in this SDK folder and then browse to the following folder: "Environment Kit\Modeling SDK". You'll see the folder FSX_GmaxGamePack.
2.) Copy the folder FSX_GmaxGamePack to the folder <gmax installation folder>\gamepacks
3.) Copy the GMax shortcut from <gmax installation folder>\gamepacks\FSX_GmaxGamePack to your desktop.
4.) Start GMax only from this new shortcut. Try it.

Here is the required folder/file structure:
Code:
Directory of C:\gmax\gamepacks

02/10/2008 04:20 PM <DIR> [COLOR="Red"]FSX_GmaxGamePack[/COLOR]

Directory of C:\gmax\gamepacks\[COLOR="red"]FSX_GmaxGamePack[/COLOR]

02/23/2007 05:12 AM 1,418 [COLOR="Red"]FSX_GMax.lnk[/COLOR]
01/11/2009 05:16 PM 8,222 gmax.ini
02/10/2008 04:21 PM 259 plugin.ini
03/25/2008 10:06 PM <DIR> Plugins
12/27/2007 06:12 PM <DIR> scenes
07/31/2008 08:05 PM <DIR> scripts
11/30/2007 01:16 PM <DIR> textures

The "Shortcut" is the file named FSX_GMax.lnk. Copy/Paste that Shortcut to your Desktop and use it to start GMax using the FSX Gamepack.

Sorry for being such a bother:o, but I still can't seem to find even that. I did a full system search and it wasn't in any of my folders. Does the fact that I only have the SDK from the FSX Deluxe disk have anything to do with it? (In other words, I don't have any of the service packs.)

Here is where I am looking "...\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Modeling SDK":

Here are a list of folders I have in this:
3DSM7
Images
Textures

Thanks for everyone's help so far...

You should have:

Directory of F:\FSXSDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Modeling SDK

17/07/2009 16:12 <DIR> 3DSM9
17/07/2009 16:12 <DIR> bin
17/07/2009 16:12 <DIR> FSX_GmaxGamePack

22/08/2007 16:45 28,168 CloudArtFilesAllOne.xml

Whoops:o... I will try the SDK SP1a, but what if FSX SP2 doesn't work on my computer, does that mean SDK SP2 won't work either, or will it create problems with exporting my model to it?

Installing the SDK2 won't affect your FSX installation, unless you try to use any of the SDK2 toolbar addins from SDK2 with an FSX SP1 installation.

I honestly don't remember off-hand if the GMax tools were shipped in the SDK1a package or only with the SDK2 package.

Install SDK SP1a and check to see if you now have the ..\FSX_GmaxGamePack folder!

It worked!!!! :D:D You were right, the problem was the fact that I hadn't installed SDK SP1a. Thanks again for all the great help.
