• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Land "tiles" in middle of ocean

I am using FSX KML to remove and replace Madeira. I have edited the APX43200.BGL file to change the airport altitude and placed this file in the World Scenery folder. Left the APX43200.BGL and cvx4320.bgl in the 0502 scenery folder as is. Created a new cvx file in addon scenery with the following:-
Exclude___Everything
Hydro_Polygons_Generic_Ocean_Perennial
PolygonHole
Shorelines_Generic_Ocean
LandClassPoly_Mediterranean_Scrub
Airport_Backgrounds_Flatten_ExcludeAutoGen
LandClassPoly_Grass
LandClassPoly_Airfield1

Result is island is in the correct location with airport at correct altitude but there is land mass outside the exclude polgon in rectangular squares sitting in the wider ocean.

Any ideas?

regards
john

FSX is built on land. When you exclude the water e.g.
Hydro_Polygons_Generic_Ocean_Perennial

It excludes everything out to a qmid boundary randomly between 11 and 13 (hard to guess when it will jump to a new boundary).

Run a test by putting a small exclude in your area and you can see how far out the land goes. SbuilderX and tmf viewer can show you were the qmid lines are... not sure about fsx kml.

This can get quite painful when you have to rebuild a coastline that has been wiped out.

Generally easy to fix when it just goes out into open water and you lay new vector water over that.
